Thanks Linda...glad you liked it! (nt)
Sorry for the head-spinning (m)
I think I broke the rule for sure. I had way too many characters in this short piece. But thank you for your comment about the dialogue. That's my favorite part of writing--I originally wanted to be a screenwriter.
Thanks again,
Mac
Thanks Michelle...I'm partial to Irish too! (nt)
Aye, you caught me (m)
I should've be brave and used the "real thing" but you know I'm wimp-LOL.
Thanks for the other things you pointed out. I didn't notice them.

Tiny Tuesday on Thursday
Josh pulled out the box containing the artificial Christmas tree. Dust particles cause him to sneeze as he gingerly removes the layers. I watched as I hummed to the music, I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus. It isn’t long before the tree stood ready for lights, ornaments, garland, candy canes and tinsel to be added. He checked the lights while I opened the ornament box. I lovingly gazed at the hand made ornaments, Rudolph made out of a tongue depressor, a stocking with a picture of smiling Josh, when he was a second grader, a candy cane made out of beads, an angel made out of an artificial rose, her dress and two leaves as wings and a doll head and many more. I added these treasures with care onto the tree.
I looked down into the box and what do I see but a lonesome, neglected Christmas mouse. His gray fur was matted, his Santa hat crooked and his whiskers dirty, he had no body cause he fitted a doorknob. But boy, it brought back memories.
I remembered the year that my oldest was eight and the youngest of five was one. We lived in a house without a chimney so the children were concerned. They asked how would Santa get into the house? I had found a catalog with a picture of a Christmas mouse so I ordered him and he knighted with special powers became part of a family tradition. I explained that he would let Santa into the house. The younger kids bought the magic story but the two oldest knew better or so they thought they did.
I wanted them to believe in Santa so before it was time to leave to go to Christmas Eve Mass, hubby distracted them and I went back into the house and put the Santa presents under the tree. I’ll always remember how they looked when they walked into the house and saw the presents. They were floored and my heart cheered!
Josh grabbed then dropped the mouse, which brought me back. The music has changed to Carpenters Christmas carols, the tree was decorated with care and all the lights blinked with delight. I picked up the mouse once again and thought your retired now because when we added the family room we installed a fireplace and chimney but you will always have a special place in my heart.
Great Christmas story (m)
filled with precious memories. I loved that magical mouse idea. Thanks for the sweet story, Maria.

Screenwriting, very interesting...
Did you take any training or courses?
There was a particular Nickelodeon cartoon (Rugrats, and Monsters to a lesser extent) that I watched that sparked my interest to write television storylines. I'm in awe of the clever writers on Frasier and Third Rock from the Sun.

Concerns over the chimney reminds me of a camping trip at Xmas...
in California. I think I was four or five. I was worried that Santa wouldn't find me because I wasn't at home. I drew Santa a picture and a map/diagram and put it in the window of the camper. Later, while sleeping, I awoke to someone in the camper shoving something onto my bunk. I whispered "Santa! Santa is that you?" No answer. "Santa?" No answer. Then, a piercing yell, "Daddeeeee there's someone in the camper!" When I got quieted down I saw it was a doll that the Santa/intruder slipped onto my bed.
One thing, when/if you revise, check for consistent verb tenses (I'm bad for them myself).
Always wondered about Xmas door mouses and how do you turn the knob with the mouse on it? Sweet story!
