Drivers Paying Record Gas Prices (AOL)
http://news.aol.com/business/story/_a/drivers-paying-record-gas-prices/20080420215509990001
U.S. drivers are paying record prices to fill their gas tanks and they could see prices surge as much as 30 cents more per gallon over the next few weeks, according to an industry analyst. U.S. average retail gasoline prices hit a record $3.4737 per gallon on April 18, up 15.66 cents from the April 4 average, according to the nationwide Lundberg survey of about 7,000 gas stations. Higher driving costs come at a tough time for U.S. consumers, who are already struggling with higher food prices, a slowing economy, job losses and sinking home prices. In addition, surges in gasoline demand during the peak driving months of June, July and August and higher costs could force motorists to cut back on their vacation travel plans, or reduce spending in other areas.

What are gas prices like in your area??

Ours are 3.83/gallon, but we took a road trip to Canada this year and they were over 8/gallon, same with England, so I am just thankful.

But do we need these high prices to get people to start conserving gas.

I think it will eventually make people HAVE to conserve; and it's good for my area if we drive less, we have horrible pollution.

I have heard projections of $6/gallon gas in the future!

I suppose there is a huge amount of truth to that Sue...but then there are folks like me who have 5 kids and need space in the back for a double stroller and oh, gee maybe a diaperbag. We had a "smaller" SUV for a while, but when the third row was up, I couldn't even fit my stroller in. So we NEEDED the bigger vehicle.

I drive diesel, which gets better MPG. It's $5.09 a gallon. My tank is a 40 gallon tank. Yes, I nearly barf when I have to fill up. Fortunately, it's my Mommy Beast, and I get a full month's worth out of the one tank.

As a side note...on Sunday when I was driving to church (with all the kids), I came up to a stop sign and a car flipped me off as they drove thru the intersection. I had to turn right, which meant I was then driving behind them. When I got ready to turn left into the church parking lot, they flipped me off again as they drove away. Seriously...the only thing I "did" was drive an Excursion. I really think that's why I got the bird!!!

OK, I almost throw-up when I read what you pay in gas. Wow, that is just insane! How much do you spend on gas a month??

I didn't mean that to sound rude. I was trying to sympthize with you and it came out wrong. I can't imagine trying to get 5 kids, their stuff, and my husband into our Odessy. Hopefully, we'll get a break in the prices soon/

I cannot believe those people flipped you off. Like you said, you have 5 kids you NEED that space. You can't drive around with a smaller vehicle and Roxie and Ryan strapped to the luggage rack LOL!
