*** I hit some button before I got the whole Title in the Post.. and I hate that we can't edit TITLES!!! Supposed to say "Obama's Father's Day Message"

There are times when I like what Barack Obama says, but when Bill Cosby tried talking tough.. he wasn't received very well.

CHICAGO (AP) - Barack Obama celebrated Father's Day by calling on black fathers, who he said are "missing from too many lives and too many homes," to become active in raising their children.

"They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it," the Democratic presidential candidate said Sunday at a largely black church in his hometown.

Obama often speaks about the importance of parental involvement. In Washington, he sponsored legislation to get more child support money to children by offering a tax credit for fathers who pay support, more efficient collection and penalties for fathers who don't meet their obligations.

The issue adds to his family values credentials and lets voters see him delivering a stern message to black voters.

I like what he said. My dd had an absent "father a.k.a. sperm donor" and what he said could have been directed at him too. Obama's own father was absent in his life. I think a lot of the welfare problems would be resolved if people took

""We can't simply write these problems off to past injustices," Obama said Sunday. "Those injustices are real. There's a reason our families are in disrepair ... but we can't keep using that as an excuse.""

AMEN! He sure does know how to talk the talk, I'll give him that.

In comparing him to Cosby though....it is interesting that Cosby was blasted for "acting white" when he spoke similar words. I wonder if Obama will get similar "criticism" or if his caucasian ancestry will be blamed for the choice of words.

In any event, I still think it needs to be said by as many people (entertainers, politicians, pastors, etc) that are willing to stand up and say it.
