I believe this was Sen Clinton's position also.
I personally believe this position is wrong, as I see same-sex marriage as a civil rights issue, but it seems that the mainstream Democratic party does not agree.

Marriage is also traditionally controlled by the states, so same-sex marriage is not really a Presidential issue.
How has the democratic party show it does not care about the sancity of marriage?
