"The ruling came the day after a worker at a plastics plant in Henderson, Kentucky, used a handgun to shoot and kill five people inside the factory before killing himself, the latest in a series of deadly shooting sprees across the country.
The United States is estimated to have the world's highest civilian gun ownership rate. Gun deaths average 80 a day in the United States, 34 of them homicides, according to Centers for Disease Control data."
"I grew up with guns and was taught how to use them, but I hated them."
Same here, Laura. My husband and I don't own any guns (he's been known to say, "I have to carry them for work, why would I want one at home?" when he was on guard duty both off and on the ship) and don't have any intentions of owning one. I'd feel safer with a security system than with a gun...but that's just me.
"I am thankful my rights were protected."
Me too! While I do believe in gun control (and I'm sure you do too, since after all, you took classes, registered your gun, got the proper permits, etc. etc.) I DON'T believe such "control" includes the outright banning of semi-automatic guns (note: not the same as fully-automatic!).
Andi~ I agree, which is why I don't have guns!! :) The ONE gun that my son has (and at that, it's a BB gun!) stays at grandma and grandpa's house....8 hours away!
My brother has a picture of him taking his then 3 year old daughter to the range...AND showing her HOW TO LOAD THE GUN!! **shudder**
