"The package approved by Congress includes a doubling of GI Bill college benefits for troops and veterans. It also provides a 13-week extension of unemployment benefits, $2.7 billion in emergency flood relief for the Midwest, and tens of billions of dollars for food aid, anti-drug enforcement, Louisiana levee repairs and many other items."

Silly Republicans! Oh wait...congress is Democratic controlled...yikes!? Who do we blame this time!?!? Riiiight...the PRESIDENT for signing a DEMOCRAT PASSED bill!!!

Actually, dh and I have been following this bill with baited breath as one of the provisions to the GI bill now allows it to be transfered to a dependent (child or spouse) which is such an amazing, amazing blessing for us. Dh is only a few units away from his degree anyway, and the money would be much wiser spent on my RN degree sense for the last 14 years I've been supporting him while he's been gone rather than going back to school on our paultry (oh wait, I forgot, we're "upward bound"!!) military pay.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop though...two major decisions in a week's time?? Is the sky falling!!???

I was talking about the war money only! There are always (well almost always) good things wrapped with bad things when bills are passed.

Lisa~ the way my husband understands it, the GI Bill is good for 36 months (4 years, not including summer sessions). So feasibly, you could give 18 months to one child and 18 months to another.

*If* dh's understanding is correct ;)

I'm really glad for those things you listed being funded, but what is the ratio War spending to Helpful spending?

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure

I'm not really sure since even the PAYCHECKS of the military is considered "war funding".

I know it's hard to separate, but I wish they could.
