Thanks for the link. There are some great ideas in there!
We are making voting a 'family' event, dh and I going in first thing in the morning to vote before dh has to go to work/school and the boys have to go to school. The boys will of course be with us. They have all tagged along with us when we have voted in every election that they have been alive for, be it local, state, or federal elections.
Our oldest, being 10 years old, has really gotten into the politics this time around. He has watched the Debates with dh and I, as well as researched the candidates gathering info from non-biased sites(at least as non-biased as you can get) and joining in on dinner time discussions. Another thing he has been learning about is the history of US elections, how they have changed over the years, and how the political parties were formed. Pretty cool stuff!!
Our middle ds is only 4 years old and he is more interested in the whole voting process and we have had to 'vote' over everything from which books to read at bed time to what flavor ice cream to buy at the grocery store. He is also learning all to well the Veto Power that the 2 Co-Pres'es of the household work ;o) LOL!
Our youngest ds - well honestly he lives in complete political bliss where he has no clue nor idea what is going on LOL!
I am also a Daisy Girl Scout Leader and my girls are in Kindergarten. We have talked about the election process and how our right to vote is a great way to "serve our country". We had a mock election today between Snow White (me) and Cinderella (my co-leader), both having wonderful campaign speeches that promised all sorts of things. The girls then went to place their secret ballot in the decked out Princess voting booth I made this weekend. After the ballots were counted and Snow White won by 1 vote the girls decorated both my Suburban and my co-leaders minivan using car-window chalk/paint urging people to exercise their right to Vote tomorrow. We didn't endorse any candidates, just simply got the word out to VOTE.
And while teaching the kids all about our rights as Americans to Vote, I for one will be very very happy after tomorrow is all over with and we can get back to normal, or as close to normal as possible. Regardless of who wins I am sure that the drama will continue after the elections and the winner has been named. *sigh*
