There were so many controversial propositions and amendments in several different states that I am fascinated with.

Washington voted for doctor-assisted suicide.

Colorado, South Dakota, and California all voted on limiting abortion rights.

Arkansas, California, Arizona and Florida voted on limiting gay rights.

What did you think of some of these propositions? Were there any shocks/disappointments?

You can go here to see a complete list of all the ballot measures and how the votes went.

I don't get the bans on same sex marriage. I just don't understand it. Does it really truly matter who marries who? Same sex marriage in no way threatens heterosexual marriage so I really cannot comprehend why so many people are opposed to it. I personally don't care who someone else chooses to marry. I know what my marriage means to me and that's all that matters.

I don't get this either. I'd really like for someone to explain to me why these couples being allowed to foster/adopt is a bad thing.

California did not vote to limit abortion rights, our prop 4 which was a parental consent law, failed to pass.

I'm shocked at the fact we voted, not just to limit marriage to staright couples, but to actual remove an existing right for another group.

I thought the Calif. Supreme Ct. already ruled that a ban against same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.

Perhaps this new proposition had different wording.

I don't get the ban on unmarried people adopting or fostering children either - Thank goodness I don't live in Arkansas. A very good friend of mine is a widow and has been a foster mom for years and recently adopted one of her fosters. It would have been tragic for this woman to not be in these children's lives -

Thanks for the clarification. And ITA about Prop 8. It's amazing that we elected a black man, but this just shows that we still have a long way to go in re: to discrimination.

I'm not from California, but here's how I understand it. The California Supreme Court ruled that

I have to say that I am disappointed in the bill passing.
