So dissapointed

In my area and those around me. I am so THRILLED for the outcome of this election, every now and then I just get these tears of happiness from out of nowhere. But besides my family ( parents, sister and DH) NOONE around me is happy with the outcome and the things I am hearing are AWFUL. I want others to be happy with!

Yesterday when I picked up my 5 year old she was upset, when asked why she said " Lilly ( a classmate) said Obama kills babies" and she started to cry. In her little mind she thought Lilly meant he actually kills babies, and all she could think of was he was going to kill her baby brother! WHO TELLS THEIR FIVE YEAR OLD THAT??? I am livid!

Also yesterday at work DH told a co-worker how well spoken Obama is, the co-worker replied thats how the anti-christ is supposed to be. ( I have since found out the co-worker is the grandfather of Lilly!)

last night amongst friends, one says Obama is going to raise taxes to create welfare programs

I haven't voted in enough elections to know whether this sort of thing is typical every time a democrat gets elected to office. I am guessing not and am wondering how much of it has to do with how the Republican party has become so aligned with fundamentalist Christians. But I am hopeful that most people will get over it. Eventually, all the ranting about how he's a socialist Muslim terrorist will have to subside in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I'm sorry to hear those things. They really are terrible and you'd think people would be bigger than that. The only thing that I'd have to partially agree with is this comment:

>>..last night amongst friends, one says Obama is going to raise taxes to create welfare programs and bankrupt us all so we all need the welfare he just created.<<

Because that is something that could very well happen. When taxes are raised you almost always hurt those whom you were intending to help. It's a shame people don't better grasp how businesses and the economy work. The more expansive the entitlement programs become the worse things really get--they're like a reverse motivator.

I don't know why people don't understand that wealth is not finite and requires redistribution but that it is something that can be created. There are so many better ways to help the poor or lower income than stealing through taxation will ever accomplish.

So the friend making the comment above is wise indeed.

Jax - I was talking to my mom during the last few weeks of the election, we were talking about those stupid skinheads and their assassination plot, my mom said "Well, he knew this would happen....I guess being President was more important to him."

I'm LDS also and just wanted you to know that, as an independent voter who doesn't automatically subscribe to conservative (or liberal for that matter) politics, you are not alone. I've never been a single issue voter, but many in conservative religions are. You voted your conscience and that is the right thing to have done.

All of that makes me so sad. Regardless of who you voted for, Obama won. He will be our next president. Instead of going on and on with the negative comments and all the ignorance, just give the guy a chance. it's four years. He can't screw too much up in four years. I think he'll do a lot for us in four years, and I hope that those close-minded people can give him the chance, and then the recognition for a job well done.
