Hit here, im new to the board, but feel i belong here. I'm 23 and absolutely love drinking. I dont do casual drinking, i drink to get as drunk as humanly possible. However, i know that i drink too often. Every wednesday night is 1.50$ draft night so of course my friends and I always go. then on Fridays i go to that same bar with my pals and we drink till about 5am (the bartender knows us so we can stay late).

I know i need to cut back on the drinking. I've gained alot of weight from it, and well my bank account is sure hurting as well. I spend atleast 60$ bucks a week on drinking, and thats the minimum i spend, not the maximum. There have been a couple 100$+ nights.

I also miss alot of work due to me being hungover. It's got to stop but honestly i dont know where to begin. it's going to be incredibly hard because my best friends all drink insane amounts, and well they arent the type that will just go to a movie instead of the bar. That's just not the type of people they are. I refuse to give up my pals so i'm kind of in a bind

HI coolcat,

It's late and I want to go to bed, so, I'm going to get right to the point. You sound incredibly immature for 23 and are in big, big trouble with alcohol. I suggest you call AA from the first phone you can lay your hands on.

Welcome - glad you posted. It sounds like you have some serious issues with alcohol. I would suggest getting to an AA meeting, or calling your doctor as soon as possible. As long as you continue to drink as you described, you will get worse. As far as your friends are concerned - I learned who my true friends were when I quit drinking. When my "friends" realized I wasn't drinking they ran the other way as fast as they could. After I got over the initial shock I realized it was the best thing that they could have done.

Honey, you are in a world of trouble. Please get help.

Hi. My friends are the middle aged version of your friends. They OWN the bars, restaurants and nightclubs. They ARE the band members. So I am quite familiar with all night benders. And I, too, don't want to give up my friends and family (fortunately my friends will go to movies on occasion).

I am not in a position to give advice since I have only been working on my drinking problem for a few months. But I started with Moderation Management at www.moderation.org. You might want to go to the website and see if there is anything there that might be helpful. They have some good advice on how to reduce your drinking.

Also, this board is VERY supportive so please stay and read all the posts. There are so many different stories but some will sound familiar to you.

Take care,

Lucky

Hey there and welcome~I have been where you are and it's just plain hard to get rid of the friends. The best advice is that you can control yourself, not your friends. If you want a better life, you have to want it and get it yourself.......

Hey Coolcat

I am not going to tell my story, but I will tell my DH's. At 22, he was in the armed service. He drank and partied. He drank to get drunk. He made sure bills were mostly paid...and drank the rest. He drank away his first wife, his sons and his liberty. He spent 2 years in a federal prison. (The reason

No. I am working on harm reduction right now. I am still not ready for a 30 day abstain. But my desire to attempt one is becoming stronger every day. Especially now that I have cut back with success. I may try two 15 day abstains. Don't know if that counts but if it works for me......it counts! LOL.

Thanks for all the messages. It's going to be a tough road ahead. One of my friends is trying to stay sober for a whole month. That seems like a long time, but when i think about it, my health is gonna be better and so is my money situation. I realize drinking only leads to bad things as one of my good friends was arrested for drinking and driving. I'm just confused as to where to start. I checked out that one website, but i dont know, i need to start out slow as i've been binging for the last 3 years.

Dh is one of us who lost so much, and regained it back because of AA.

Have to go...he has to go to a meeting, and I am with the kids. (He did the same for me when I went to meeting this afternoon.)
