Hello my fellow drunks! We do have senses of humor here I hope! :-)

My name is Angela and I am a competant woman (I love saying that! I think I'm starting to belive it, too!) On Saturday I will be 6 weeks sober. Last year I had ten weeks so I won't be patting myself on the back too hard just yet but wait till that 10th week and 1st day! I'll certainly be needing a heating pad for the sore muscles. LOL

For the last 4 Saturdays I have spent my mornings in the positive energy and loving support that is Women For Sobriety. I've seen from lurking around here that most folks are AAer's and I am not here to make waves, however, I know that when I decided to get serious about getting sober, well...AA wasn't going to be the place for me. I really only say that because if there are other lurkers that want a place to go but don't feel drawn to AA (like me), I thought I'd spread the word about another fine organization. See! I said *another fine organization*. :-)

They have a website where you can read about their "New Life" program. It's very empowering stuff!

Again, I'm not here to be negative about anyone or anything. Just offering up an alternate path to the place we're all hoping and striving for...peaceful sobriety.

This might not be a great comparision but I feel like I just walked into a Baptist church and shouted out "Hey everyone, those Mormons sure know what they're doing!" I really don't know how sensitive people are about their choice in recovery programs but I think that it's probably just as dear to most as their choice in religion, or lack thereof, and am loathe to offend. Jeez, have a I qualified enough?!

Time to curtsy and exit stage left....

Hi Angela,

I shouted Yipee to you in your earlier post. I firmly believe that AA worked for me, having said that I am open-minded enough to believe that there are different strokes for different folks.

This board is called alcohol problems, and for me, that means that whatever works...let us share it.

So welcome to you!!

Hi there - First of all - congrats on your sober life! I am an "AA-er" and I love the program because it saved my life! I have no problem with alternative ways to stay sober - on the contrary! I object when a person tells anyone "it's my way or the highway". I hope I never do that to anyone. When we share what works for us, we share our experience, strength, and hope. While many here are in AA, we all come here for a common purpose - to help one another stay sober and to live without the chains of alcoholism.

God bless you and whatever works - please share with us. The main thing is that we support and grow!
Take care!

Hi Angela. You'll find lots of support here for abstainance from ANY program. These are a smart bunch of women committed to staying sober.

Welcome!

Thanks for the Yipee!!!

I must admit that what I call the "Honeymoon period" has worn off somewhat. I'm not quite as excited about doing the dishes in the evening because I'm sober enough to care or setting the coffee to brew in the AM cuz I'm sober enough to measure. The bored and lonley triggers are creeping in but I am commited to A. recognizing what they are; B. replacing those thoughts with more positive ones and C. NOT DRINKING!

Lucky for me I have places to go to out these feelings and know that anyone reading it is nodding their head in understanding. That really does help.

HI osmama,

Paul (a 38 year member of AA)claps so hard for osmama his hands turn beet red and are very sore. Paul demands a curtain call from osmama. Whatever works, sister, whatever works. Didn't Jean Kilpatrick found Woman for Sobriety. She was the US rep to the UN I believe. You just keep doing what your doing osmama and you'll be fine. AA's OK, WFS is OK,You are OK, I am OK. Good fortune to you and be safe.

Service in recovery,

Paul
