I'm so stress out and tired

Today, David's first grade class did a little production for parents. The kids dressed up in Mexican outfits and did a really cute dance number for Cinco de Mayo. Before that, they each read a Mother's Day poem.

Well, I already knew that David had been excused from the dance. He just couldn't handle having to wear a "sombrero" and do choreographed steps. Too much like being told what to do. Besides, they did all the practice in the afternoons, and David typically either has scheduled time at Resource, or gets sent there because he's climbing bookshelves or something. The boys were all supposed to wear a white shirt, and he refused to wear his this morning. I packed one in his backpack, but I'm sure the teacher never saw it.

Anyway, I showed up, with my 3.5 year old, who HATES having to sit through these things. The kids came up to the microphone one by one and each one recited a little poem, each line starting with M.O.T.H.E.R. One kid was too nervous, and I felt kind of sorry for him because that was *me* as a kid. David was last, as he wanted. When it was his turn, he got all silly, and did a kind of gorilla walk to the microphone. He purposefully whacked his paper on the microphone a few times and then stooped down real low and acted like he couldn't reach it. When he finally read the poem, he did it in a goofy, fast voice.

That was no surprise, but I've been sooooo worn out lately, that it just irritated me so much. Both of my kids have been so demanding lately. I suppose all kids get annoying now and then. David has been picking up a lot of the normal, irritating school-kid stuff like saying "hecka". If I have to listen to one more person shout some inane thing like, "WHAT IF POPCICLES WERE CALLED POOPCICLES??" and wait impatiently for me to answer, I'm just going to snap.

"Oooh! Someone on TV said PENIS!!" (On a PBS filler, a voice said, "Leer es divertido para todos." Someone please tell me what part of that sounds like "penis".)

SNAP!! Oh, there it goes. That didn't take long. That's it. I'm ordering pizza for dinner. Again.

I've been totally stressed out with things like IEP meeting and worrying about whether I ought to choose an anti-psychotic medication for my child that carries a risk of mania activation and/or diabetes or a mood stabilizer that carries a risk for renal failure. I hope I can be forgiven for temporarily not wanting to play with my kids or fulling appreciating my child's "performance". David's medication isn't quite right, and he's either up until 10, absorbed in some activity like writing secret codes or having full blown manic episodes. Either way, I can't get to bed until midnight unless I want to wake up to stacks of dirty dishes.

Thanks if you got this far. Please keep your fingers crossed for me...next month David is participating in a big first grade musical.

(((HUGS))) in my humble opinion you are excused from playing w/ your kids and you are excused from making supper! (my kids think TV dinners are better than mom's cooking anyway!) sending lots of p & pts for deciding what meds to try, hope it works out quickly!

Dang, Evelyn, I can just feel the tired! OY! Those are situations where by the end of the day I just loose my patience. Good for you for ordering dinner because that would have been my breaking point if I had to make dinner, clean up AND deal with evening routines with kids who are probably completely off after a day like that too.

Sending the chocolates and wine. Here's to Friday! Hope you have a better day.
