Blood test update....

A while ago I had written (at least I think I did) that Dave had an odd EEG findings and they were going to order some metabolic and mitochondrial testing for him. It took 2 weeks to get the list of tests, but we finally did and we went and had the tests done yesterday. I should have the results in a couple weeks.

On the upside Dave was a complete trooper. We went for lunch and a date at IKEA after. Gotta love those family friendly places. Bought him a tent on sale. ($10) IKEA has the greatest sensory stuff cheap. And he got to play in the kids area for a bit.

As for the tests, I don't think they left the poor kid any blood. There were 9 vials that went out. At least one of the tests had to be sent to a specialty lab (the corchesne autism clinic). Most of the tests were actually for chromosome abnormalities. Which is odd because when I was preggers with Dave there was an oddity in the ultrasound that made them think chromosome problem. Had to go for a specialized ultra sound and genetic counselling. I was told at the time he had a 1 in 150 chance rather than a 1 in a few thousand chance of having a chromosome problem. I thought I was in the clear. Now I wonder.

I mean, of all my kids he does look different than the other kids but not that different! But they tell me there is a range. Oh, and of course they are doing fragile x. Had to nearly laugh at that one, but what the heck.

Hi Renee, hope you & the family are doing well! I sure hope all those blood tests are negative. When I was pregnant w/Sarah my amnio was abnormal. One pair of chromasomes was flipped over. They never came up w/ anything after genetic tests except to say that I am also carrying the the flipped over chromosome. I don't have any ASD's in my family so I don't know what it could be. My dh did not have any abnormal chromosomes as far as they told us. I sure wish they could come up w/ definative genetic studies for ASD's. I know they are closer to it any day. Good luck w/ all of Dave's tests & keep us posted. I now have more time to lurk since school is almost over & softball is done.PS I haven't been to an AS support group meeting in a long time. Have a safe & fun summer!! Take Care~ Mary Ann

9 vials! Well, my hat is off to Dave-o for sitting through that one. I can remember 5 full grown adults holding Peter down trying to get *one* vial and still failing (the kid weighed less than 40lbs at the time).

I guess the only advice I can give you is not to look up every one of those list items on the internet, because that is probably the fastest way to drive yourself insane.

Good luck in the next few weeks. It is hard waiting on test results, I know.

Good advice, too late Paula. I did make my self completely crazy with some of that. Fortunately I finally figured out it was time to stop. I just have to wait and see.
