writing positive things about himself

First, thanks to everyone who responded to my haircut post. Wow! Who knew so many people's kids had haircut issues!
Anyway, my David, who's just finishing up first grade, brought something home today that made me so happy. It was a paper flower they made at school, and on each petal was written, in his handwriting, something positive about himself. Now, I know for a fact that if he'd been given this assignment at the beginning of the year, his petals would have said things like, "I'm a stinky buttcrack". Anything positive would have been something from one of his many imaginary worlds, like, "I use the Kanoka Hau Nuva to defeat the Vhisorak".
But no, his petals said, "I'm smart, dude", "I'm cool, dude", "I'm artistic", "I'm creative", and "I like to write books". I'm so happy about that. I've never heard him express anything like that before. For one thing, it's too realistic for him to discuss his actual self; 99% of the time he's in some make believe mode, jumping through time portals and going to Bionicle's birthday parties.
Of course, I shouldn't have been surprised when he wouldn't let me put the flower up on the fridge. He hates it. The petals were supposed to be glued on, but since he had to go to his quiet place (he gets wound up and needs to leave the classroom most afternoons), an aide stapled it for him. "I HATE it when she does that!" he said.
Oh well, I'm so happy he was able to say those nice things about himself. I sure hope it continues.

Googol,
I loved reading this post about David. He reminds me a little of Cassian, although older. They are both in world's of their own and have great imaginations. I can totally see Cassian writing books in a few years. Right now he mostly enjoys writing poetry and songs, though.
Thanks for sharing!

Ooohhh...that's so sweet that he was able to do that! It really gives you insight to how he feels and thinks about himself. Right now, Nathan is just drawing pictures, so I get lots of pictures of the two of us. It's nice to get a look inside his little head and see how he pictures things and what he's thinking about. I can't wait til he starts writing more! He only writes stuff at school....hates doing writing at home!!
