Bari,

Is it written in his IEP? If not I would make sure that it is so you can have legal recourse, otherwise it is pretty much out of the good ness of their heart. Some teachers I have not had to have it written in the IEP. We have great communicaiton, but there are those where I have had to have it written in.

Next, regardless of whether or not it is in the IEP, I would call the principal and if that doesn't work go to the district people who ever is over them. You have given them adequate time to respond and they are not doing thier jobs. It needs to go through thier superiors then. Treat it like a business. If you go a store or restaurant and someone isn't doing thier job, you have the option of talking to the manager. Even with phone sales you can speak to a supervisor. Aren't our kiddo's more important? We never want to step on toes because we have to work with these people and have relationships with them, but it isn't going to be a good relationship anyway if they aren't doing thier job. You can handle it in a sensitive manner as possible.

I have had to do it on more than 1 occasion in the past when therapists weren't doing hours despite my trying for months to work it out with them. With teachers who refused to follow IEP's. etc. It has never blown up in my face and typically turns out positive.

If going to the supervisor doesn't work, then that is when it is good to have it in the IEP because I would file a compliance report with the state.

Also, any chance you can volunteer. I find making myself a frequent presence in the classroom promotes more frequent communication. Often it is a good way to start the year. They know I am going to be there regularly bugging them. ;-)

Hi Bari,

Yeah, the empty notebook is the bane of my existence. We once went 3 weeks (I was just curious how long we could go!)

I would def. make sure that daily comm. is in his IEP. And follow up. Our school likes the notebook b/c it then become a perm. record. Maybe you could suggest a "fill in the blank" format if they don't have "time" to write in the book?

I'm with you, sister.
