Middle school culture shock that is.

THEY ARE SO SO SO SO BIG!!!!!!!!!

I dropped off Cait for her first day of extended school year today and in trying to find her class we walked across the whole campus. There where tons of cliques here there and everywhere. Big boy group walking by cussing. Most of them hanging out in the main area waiting for class to start. Only a few teachers around, naturally, shoeing them into class.

MY GIRL IS GOING TO GET SOOOOOO LOST!!!!!!!! And those boys BETTER keep thier cotton pickin hands off my girl or they will pay dearly!

Oh, and btw, she had a great time and has a wonderful teacher. There is only 4-5 kids in the class. All Aspies with 1 aide and 1 teacher. The aide walked Cait all the way to my car while lots of kids where just out there hanging unsupervised. So they were really good about keeping track of her. But OMG!!!!!! I was not ready for middle school.

Renee,

How goes it with the boys in Cait's class? How does she feel about being the only girl?

((((HUGS)))), So glad they took such good care of her the first day. How neat that she's in such a small group and able to get the hang of school before the academics start. They will teach her what she needs to know and by way of being in a class w/ all aspies she will not fall through the cracks that are SO wide in middle school! Remember too that these big bad boys that are cussing and rowdy are there because they screwed around during the regular year and have to be there for summer school. There will be lots of neat normal respectful kids when regular school starts again.

Suzi,

She loves it. She calls them her buddies. She really has never had real friends in school becuase she just didn't know how. She keeps telling me all about them. And the teachers are both women.

I gotta say, woman teachers who work with AS kids REALLY love having girls around. Today her summer school teacher was threatening to arm wrestle her regular middle school SDC teacher for her next year.

Her summer program is going on a field trip to the library tomorrow. Also this summer they are going to the movies, the beach to clean up, and a few other really cool field trips, all while working on social skills. It is great.

Oh and Betsy, you are right. Her school will be better in the regular year. Not only is this summer school so not the most stellar citizens. Plus her school next year is in a more expensive part of town. Is that a nice way to put it. Our neighborhood is nice, but our neighborhood middle school covers alot of not so nice neighborhoods and has a pretty bad rep. I am really glad she is going across town to this other particular middle school. But they all are scary. The stories I have heard. What was most scary where the girl cliques. I just really hope she finds somewhere to belong.
