I just wanted to ask you about Owen? I have beening worring about Katie and I wanted to know if he was doing some of the things she does, since you think he is ADHD and you have NT children to compare him to.
Some of the things I see with Katie is a temper-tantrums like I have never seen before. It is like she is possessed. SHe clinched her fist and screams and cries. She is always on going, talking. Gets mad if you don't let her talk and will yell at you(well except dh)-she growls. ANd she won't let you help because you can't do it the right way.
My problem is I have nothing NT to compare her to-It would be easier if I knew what was normal-all I have is Jake and my DH (both who are different) and I am not so NT myself!LOL
Thanks,
Liza

well, compared to Martha, Owen is like a tornado/hurricane/volcano rolled into one. Martha is NT. She has done just about everything just as & when the child development books say she should. She threw temper tantrums, but usually they were to get attention or when she was trying to get her way (not when she was over stimulated). She still will throw a tantrum when she's over tired or hungry, but there is a difference, but it's hard to explain. She has a few sensory issues (all my kids do) but she reasons well for a 6yr old, she seeks out positive peer interaction (and has from the time she was 2). She plays cooperatively and takes turns, she wants to do things herself but will let you help if she's getting frustrated, she adheres to rules but will bend them, or excuse those who break them for a good reason.
Owen is either constant motion or watching TV or playing on the computer. He throws himself around the family room-- off furniture, off the walls, through the air, on his siblings (often on Weston and this causes many meltdowns for Weston). He has lots of sensory seeking tendencies. He has extreme food pickiness, he speaks really loudly all the time, he does some self stimulations (fingers in ears yelling or screaching, hits himself to "wakeup"), but he does take turns, he does pay attention to other children in Sunday School or on a play date, he doesn't obsess on spinning wheels like Weston did, he doesn't rock or spin all the time. He has no large motor delays(runs well, can dribble a soccer ball, rides a 2wheeler w/ training wheels, can gallop but not quite skip). He doesn't have a speech delay, in fact he's very verbal and if you can get him to pay attention to you he has great receptive language as well.
If you're really worried you can have her evaluated by your school district, explain why you're concerned. She may qualify for a special preschool and some OT and maybe even speech therapy if she's delayed. It's worth looking into. I think we're going to have Owen evaluated in the spring to see if he qualifies for the special preschool at our home school(he might just because of the SID). If he doesn't qualify, I'll at least have my fears eased.

Ok- now see..I think I need to get her evaluated after she turns 4 in Dec. SHe is the same way-she can sit still and be quiet if it is something she likes on TV-but other then that she is jumping, flipping, spinning, posing like a ballerina and telling me to look 500 hundred times and getting mad when I dont, climbing on furniture--man a few days ago when I went to the store real fast-I come home she is standing outside -with no shirt on I will add-and nobody inside knew she had gotten out-SCARY-Jake and dh were both LOCKED into their computers...URGH!!!
Anyways, she does that hitting herself thing too. When she was younger she would beat her head on the wall.
Thanks for the help!
