Questions about accomidation/modifcation

We are having an IEP meeting tomorrow for Kyle to discuss the best way to support him. This is stemming from his meltdown last week. I asked his teacher to email me a list of what accomidations/modifications Kyle is getting now so I could brainstorm ideas on how to best help him. She sent me a long list which all looks pretty good on paper. There were a couple that surprised me though, that I think he doesn't need. Have any of you ever had that-getting modications they don't need? The two I'm questioning are Highlighting vocabulary words and reading tests out loud. I'm questioning his need for those because last yr, in 4rd grade, he tested 99% 8.4 grade equivalent in vocab and 96% 8.6 grade equivalent in reading comprehension on ITBS.

I would probably ask why she recomended those. Perhaps see if there are concerns from this year. Maybe remind them that last year it wasn't an issue so unless there are some new huge concerns (which I would then want to address why) perhaps you can hold off on those particular modifications.

heck, I don't even let them modify the kids state testing. They do ok so far and I want to see how they do in the natural state with what they have learned. Even though it is kind of standard to do modifications for special ed kids. So far it hasn't been an issue and the kids do fine.

Mike automatically had some modifications because of his class. To not have modifications would have meant going into a mainstream 3rd grade class he had never been in. So we just kept it where he'd been all year so officially it was modifications but it really wasn't.

"heck, I don't even let them modify the kids state testing."

Kyle did get some modifications for state testing. He took the test in the resource room instead of the reg. classroom. They checked his work to make sure he didn't fill the circles in on the wrong line and let him use an index card to help keep his place. I think that was it though.
