NE1 working with DAN doctors?

What can you tell me about the program? My husband is very into this possibility but I've been a little skeptical. Anybody have any success? Thanks.

Well, kind of. We haven't gone for it hook, line and sinker.
We started in because we'd read about chelation for metal exposure and wanted to have DS's (age 4 PDD-NOS) metals tested. We were told that the DAN doctor was the one to do it. $1,000 to walk in the door, major $$ for tests, $150 to get the results (this bugged me since I'd just dropped $1,000), $150 (a month!) for vitamins, more for anti-biotics (drug coverage won't handle b/c they come from some weirdo pharmacy). Anyway, we're several months and thousands of dollars into it and STILL without metals testing. (I did just get the paperwork and it's pretty intimidating -- the drugs have to be imported from another country and there's more waivers than I've ever seen.)
Overall, I hate to say it feels like a rip-off, but....
The doctor and her dietician seem to be (in fact are) very intelligent people. And when I am sitting in front of them their explanations make perfect sense to me. And then when I run it by a ped. friend (who coincidentally was friends with the DAN doctor in college) she is like "Huh? That is so wacky."
I see no harm in trying some of the stuff. The GF/CF diet, well, some people swear by it. But I will not let their protocol detract time, money and energy from proven therapies.
I have been warned by my dev. ped that they manipulate data. And DS's behavioral consultant told me, for the number of people who have tried the GF/CF diet, there still isn't the data to support the anecdotal evidence.
These are just my random thoughts on DAN. Your mileage may vary.

We couldn't afford a DAN doctor and don't trust them any more than any other doctor. But that said I do believe that biomedical treatments are very helpful to lots of kids. You can do most everything safer and cheaper on your own if your willing to put the time and effort into researching what's out there. A hair test to check for heavy metals is only $80 through doctors data lab. We are doing chelation and vitamins and haven't needed to take out a second mortgage. We also still do other therapies like OT, PT, theraputic listening.
