I just got the OASIS guide from the library and put a bunch of titles mentioned here or titles I saw on Amazon on hold.

So far, I like the OASIS guide a lot. It's a great intro to AS and is a good-everything-in-one-book. It covers school, home, IEPs, meds, intervetions and therapies. It's a really good over-view.

Any others that you guys have found especially helpful?

I try to never read anything about what it's like to be autistic unless it's written by an autistic person - so autobiographies are often my choice. And I often lurk on the Yahoo autistic support group. I've learned far more about autism from those who have it than from those who don't.

That aside I do like the books by Linda A Hodgdon about visual communication strategies.

Hi Samantha

try this link http://groups.google.com.au/group/alt.support.autism?lnk=srg&hl=en

It goes to the page that is current today, so if you try it in a few days, you may need to update to a more current page.

The site has a lot of off topic stuff since this is the main means for socialising for some members, but it's worth wading through.

I will also warn that many members are very pro-autism and anti-ABA. However, hearing reasons for different ways of thinking is never a bad thing.
