I am so excited I had to share. Matthew (3-ASD) started first a few days ago. He has been pulling his diaper off when he has to pee. And he always looks and does it as soon as he gets in the bathtub. So, I tried putting him on the toliet, all the way to the back with his legs open to watch. Lo and behold, he did it! I praised and praised and he was so proud of himself. He has done it consistently each time since. Doesn't really tell me, but seems to be holding it for the toliet some.

Two nights ago, Austin (2-PDD) was watching Matt intently doing this. Last night we tried it with him and he did it too! Then, he did it at school today too!

Valerie,

That's fabulous!! Nathan didn't initiate going to the bathroom in the beginning. I'm not real sure he knew why I kept putting him on the potty in the first place!! LOL

I'm glad that they're both picking this up....who knows, maybe you'll get them both potty trained at the same time!! Imagine all that extra money you'll save on diapers!!!!

Valerie,

Woo Hoo!! That's great!

I have to say, when I saw the title of your post, I thought you meant your kids were getting pee on the seat/outside of the toilet, like mine do. I thought, "Oh, good, someone else whose bathroom always stinks because their kids can't aim." LOL!

Yea, me too. I was ready to share my visual about aiming into the toilet. But googolplex, I'll share it with you instead ;-)

I made this laminated sign which hangs above the toilet saying:

When I am doing a wee, I always hold my penis (because sometimes he doesn't hold it at all)

I hold my penis down so that all the wee goes into the toilet (because he waits till he's so busting that he's got an erection. Imagine that when not holding on! V Messy)

I watch the wee coming out of my penis and into the water. (because he forgets to aim)

I don't splash wee on the toilet seat or on the floor.

Mummy is happy if I'm careful because she doesn't have to clean wee off the toilet seat or floor.

This visual works really well - though I've found that each time I remove it, he regresses to old habits. So I've resigned to leaving it there.

BTW, we've had many women visitors who've wanted a copy for their husbands LOL

Valerie, congrats. The open legged style is what worked for us too.
