ASD booklet for teachers from NEA

My local autism support group emailed this link in a newsletter. I thought it was really good and want to find out how to get a copy to take to future IEP meetings. I can see this being helpful for our kindergarten transition meeting (although we have one more yr. of pre-k ESE)

Thought I'd share.

Here's how to order a free hard copy of the booklet:

Just email your request to: gapsinfo@nea.org

Also, if you have trouble loading the online version, just make sure to click the arrows at the bottom to go back to page 1. For some reason every time I go to the link it starts at the end!

OMG! First, This is absolutely awesome and Second I am absolutely frustrated!

Each month we get our copy of the NEA Magazine. DH is an autism specialist in public schools and a long member of the NEA. We get stuff constantly from them for voting or what not. No where EVER have I seen this pamphlet nor has he. What good is a pamphlet like this if the members of the NEA never are sent copies of it? If it is supposed to help teachers you would think they would at least mention it in the NEA magazine or as part of their promotional stuff somewhere.

I really hope to see info about this in the next monthly magazine. I really hope that somehow they are actually going to get this information out to thier members. You would think they would at least make sure to get it to the special education professionals to get the info to the mainstream teachers.

Typical government operation.

I feel your pain, Renee. Hopefully this pamphlet is brand new and that is the reason it wasn't in the NEA stuff you received in the mail. It's such a nice publication, I am sure they will promote it in their next mailings.

I would not have known about it, but fortunately our local autism group is based at a big university and they must have received information early or something.

But I couldn't have helped wondering how many public school teachers will even hear about this or get a copy. I plan to make photocopies and give them out at our local schools. I'm also emailing this link to the district liaisons for all the IEP's here. You'd hope they are NEA members and subscribe to the same things I do, but you never know.

Katherine,
Thank you!
I know this will come in handy for us in the future when dealing with IEP's.
