What the HECK does this mean? Most likely that the teacher is a knucklehead and I am going to have to ask for an IEE. I hate waiting another flipping 2 months. Grrrrr.
Cait had the woodcock-johnson achievement test. This is the same eval she has had every 3 years since at least 1st grade to show where she is functioning in academics. It is pretty standard school testing. For some reason I don't have her 4th grade one. I am getting it from the district office tomorrow, but I have the 1st grade one and the current one.
Can anyone tell me why a girl who's reading fluency was 4.3 grade level in 1st grade is now 2.9 grade level in 6th grade? Particularly a girl who is hyperlexic? How does a girl who reads a 300 page book in a day score 2nd grade in reading fluency?
Then areas she typically scores low in (story recall, understanding directions) suddenly she is off the charts gifted. She actually scored 144 on story recall. Age equivalent >21 and grade equivalent >18. Of course she mentions how it was all auditory on a tape and there was feedback on the tape. That is because I constantly complain about the noise in the room they have.
GRRRRRRRR - useless

Did they give you some other childs test scores? That just doesn't make sence.

Ask them to re-administer in an appropriate environment using functioning equipment.

Well, my only concern with re-administering is that I have found once the kids have practice at the test they do better the second time. It is really hard to get an accurate assessment of how they are doing when you keep retesting. KWIM?
We had that problem with Mike and auditory processing in 2nd grade. The first tests had areas in the 1st percentile that indicated possible auditory issues, so they gave him more tests for those areas. Well they are all similar and by the last set of tests he was doing pretty well (at least passable) on the test but his actual auditory processing was still crappy.
Ya know what is really ticking me off today about the testing? That despite discrepancies up the wahoo (low of 78 to a high of 144) and the fact that she fails or gets C's on a large amount of tests and projects, the only recomendations where the same useless things they are doing this year. No specific instruction, but all modifications.
Can't wait to get the psych report today.
