Hi Tina,

Actually, it sounds like your ped is really good. They just see so few of our kids (relatively) and nutrition is not really in their training, but she did seem open to the Feingold stuff, so that is good news. I love how she used your daughter to help. That sounds wondeful to me!

I started really slowly with all this stuff too, so I understand your worries. We started just non-dairy for a few weeks. Then added in no-gluten gradually after the no-dairy was going ok. We did just the diet for about a year, during which time we visited a nutritionist who had some good ideas for how to sneak in food Eric wouldn't eat, and other food strategies. If Bobby is in the 97th % for weight that is good.

Only recently, the last 6 mos. or so have we added the Brainchild and the enzymes. Just take baby steps. See what is working. It is good to keep a journal of what Bobby eats and any reactions, good or bad. After awhile you may see patterns. Or you may see no pattern and feel it is not worth it. I do think starting slowly with GFCF is a good first step. If you see results, then you may consider the enzymes and other things.

There is a nice step by step approach to GFCF on the TACA NOW website, don't have the link handy, but I bet you can find it.

With switching, you could start by mixing regular milk with a little rice or soy and gradually increasing the proportions until it is all soy or rice. My son likes rice better, it is sweeter! The non-dairy part is really pretty easy, once you get the mind set. And your regular grocery probably has lots of products. Just be sure it is no-casein, not just "lactose" free or non-dairy. Reading the label becomes second nature!

And you can, in theory, have regular milk with the enzymes, but if he has trouble with meds, I think it might be easier to slowly ease into the milk substitutes first before doing the enzymes.

It is overwhelming at first. But take it one thing at a time. Breathe. Then see what happens. If you do see results, then jump into the mix with all the other stuff. If not, you know you have tried. That's how I started too.

Hugs,

Love,
Katherine
