Has anyone done AIT? We just got the results of the EEG back and all is normal. The seizure type episodes are actually auditory overload. He gets really confused, the tics start and he shuts down. So medically all the tests came back fine but we still ahve no answers. Is AIT different from theraputic listening? Is it just another form? To do their 10 day clinic is really expensive plus the cost of travel and food. We just dont; have money to ne using for therapies if they aren't going to work. I know there are no guarantees, but at the same time I don't want to try something that is really considered radical or at least not for that amount of money....
If it weren't for the great discrepency between his verbal and practical (is that the term?) part of the IQ tests, I think all the drs would just write this all up as sensory issues, but that big difference is out there. Any info would be appreciated. . Thanks Heather

How did they come to the conclusion that the seizure type episodes were auditory overload? I know it is hard to figure all this stuff out, but that is a first for me. BTW to add more confusion to the mix, EEG are infamously innaccurate. They can miss things that are there and see things that aren't. Can depend alot on who is reading it too.
As for auditory integration, I am not sure what it's success rate over TLP is or how big of a difference it is. We did seem to notice a difference when using TLP with Mike. I would like to do it again if I could afford it and the school won't pay for it again. Got it slipped in the first time with his OT.
I wish I could be of more help with AIT. It is very pricey. I have heard of it backfiring sometimes with kids but other than that, I don't know much. Good luck getting more info.

He had one sleep deptrived EEG that was normal. The neuropsych pushed for a 24 hour ambulatory EEG. Neuropsych is a PHD so she can recommend but can't order. After 2 neurologists telling me it wasn't warranted we went and had it done on our own through the place the neuropsych recommended. They told me to do all I could to get a seizure on tape so I recreated the environment when the episodes seemed to occur. At home it was loud rock music on with the tv going at thesame time, the dryer and the oven timer set to beep at various intervals. This was pretty much for 8 hours. He had 4 incidents that I pressd the special notice this section button and they were able to check out.
He hears everything and it is so difficult for him to focus when there is alot going on sound wise. This I know from his commetns about sounds but also from one of the test the neuropsych did. We have had these incidents at the mall, at a small family gathering with only conversations going on but lots of conversations, at the rollar rink (regular lights) just loud music, at an indoor playland when it was really crowded, and at a restaurant...Since we are only seeing this during times of auditory distraction this is what it looks like.
I'd just like some answers. I feel like we are so grasping...Heather
We haven't done AIT but we did do TPL. They aren't the same. We found it very benificial. Ds said it made his ears less sharp. That is wearing off though. The OT said it might be something ds needs always as part of a sensory diet. One of the big things it did for us was get ds to be able to fall asleep without melatonin. It also helped with his handwriting and reading (along with progressive lens).
