HIGH SCHOOL!!!

Hi to all the old timers & new posters! I lurk but haven't posted in awhile.I'm Mary Ann a nurse w/ 2 teen girls aghhhh! one who is 17 NT & 1 who is 13 & Aspie. I have to enroll her tonight in high school. My older dd is a junior & I've been throught this before w/ her but now my probably overprotected Aspie dd is going off to the jungle. It is such a SCARY thing. I was worried about middle school (remember Renee???) We just had her trienniel review for her IEP. She is doing much better than in gr.7 which was rough. She still has the IEP but is not using any services. She is out of resource as of this semester & only has a team taught English class to help her writing which was really bad but has improved. Anyway one thing I did decide was to send her to a different highschool MUCH SMALLER than my other dd's. I hope this helps her. It will be so much fun having kids in 2 different high schools.... It is so hard for her to fit in but God love her, she does try. She does have a few friends, mostly nerdy boys who she says are easier to get along with. Anyway, wish us luck, sorry I'm ranting but I'm one of the Mom's here who has an older Aspie & read all the posts & think I wish my dd was still a little kid. Take care ~ Mary Ann

MARYANN!!!!!!
You know it is always good to hear from you.
First things, are you going to the Asperger/HFA parents group next monday? I will be there. I work for a OT company now that is putting on a summer camp and we are going to be one of the groups there. So now I have an excuse and have to go. My boys are in karate on monday so usually I can't make it.
Second, WOW, HS already. Wasn't she like 5th grade when we first met? Amazing. Glad to hear she is doing so well. I just got home from Cait's triennial a couple hours ago. The meeting went well and the school seems to be getting it, finally. For the first time in years (perhaps ever) Cait has academic goals in her IEP.
Hope to see you on Monday. Does your DD still go to the girls AS social skills group up here? We are finally thinking of putting Cait in it and having her take band in school instead of social skills group.
