Took A Trip Yesterday with AS DD

We took a trip to Baltimore, MD to the inner harbor yesterday and went by bus. It was a beautiful day and DD enjoyed the Aquarium and they had a merry-go-round there that she liked. There were the usual frustrations with not eating properly and talking loud. We took the bus down and had to get there at 6 a.m. She is getting over a cold and that contributed to some things. She was coughing, but not like she had and her nose was running a little bit. The hard part was when she vomitted about 30 minutes into the trip. We know she has motion sickness and DH said we should bring bags a long in case; good thinking. And we brought extra clothes. The mucus in her throat didn't help. But she kept talking loud and saying "I feel like throwing up." It was a bit embarrassing. I told her just to say quietly that she is feeling sick, but she didn't seem to get it. It didn't bother her what others thought. She played with toys, but a bit too loudly. She was happy go lucky despite all that, but I am frazzled. Anyone else have trouble with motion sickness? Next time we are going to take the car.

Debbie,
Nathan is actually the opposite! He never seems to get any kind of motion sickness. He loves movement!! He does fine in the car, boats, and carnival rides.
I have motions sickness myself, and Tyler seems to have a little of it. I think Nathan takes after his dad on this one though! lol
I'm glad your dd liked the aquarium and the merry-go-round (Nathan loves the carousel rides!). I'm sorry about the motion sickness part though...but I know how she feels!

Thanks Michelle. Stephanie seems to do well on rides, but just the josting around of a motor vehicle (and probably a boat) makes her sick and it usually is in the morning hours not too long after she got out of bed. When she was a baby she vomitted on her jumper and swing and when we went to MOPS at church, some mornings she would vomit on the way in. It is hard to predict when it hits her. Maybe we should give her dramimine from now on.

Peter gets awful motion sickness and I suffered terribly with it as a child. Every old family photo from roadtrips has my siblings mugging for the camera, and me; pale green, miserable and off to the side.
I bought some little accupressure wristbands for him, which are supposed to be a natural alternative to drugs. Unfortunately, we forgot to bering them on a recent long road/ferry trip, so I don't still know if they work.
But drugs: Absolutely. Dramamine is my friend. It really makes the trip easier for him if we remember to give him that little pill an hour beforehand. And I always remember. My memories of motion sickness are of utter misery, which builds for ages before you actually throw up, and doesn't really abate afterwards.
BTW: Deamamine tastes disgusting, and requires a practiced pill-swallower (and yummy juice). If she has trouble swallowing pills, have her practice with mini-M&Ms or similar.
I HTH and that the next trip is happier.

Thank you Paula. Sorry to here you are a fellow sufferer. I will try the pills next time we have to do an early morning trip of any kind which is when it hits the most. She had this habit of not eating her corn so she would try to swallow it so hopefully she can swallow the pill as well.
It wouldn't be so bad in the van, but the bus thing was kind of embarrassing.
Thanks.

I also had motion sickness as a child, but don't have much trouble anymore. I remember my mother crushed the dramamine and put it into ice cream. I remember that I could still taste it, but that the treat of the ice cream was so wonderful I didn't care. I also remember it usually put me to sleep. If she can swallow the pills, all the better!
My DH has terrible motion sickeness and uses triptophan (sp?) and he has also uses the wristbands with good success on short trips. For boats, planes and such he takes the medicines.
I am glad you had a nice trip otherwise.
