Hello, I just stumbled across this site while looking for information on tics, tourettes syndrome etc. I noticed a few posts about diet and was hoping there might be some who could suggest some dietary changes for tics? I have run across yeast elimination, magnesium supplementation, dye elimination..............can anyone help or point me in the right direction? Thank you so very much!

My ds, six yrs, has been displaying tics mouth/eyes, and hands off and on since the beginning of this year......seems to be increased by stressful or exciting situations, and there have been times where we don't see any and then they reoccur again....
no diagnosis has been made yet and I want to stay away from meds......any help? thanks!

I am confused, your husband of 6 years just started displaying tics? Or your 6yo child?

I have not heard of tics starting in adults and if it is your DH I would make sure he sees a neurologist to rule out anything more serious.

For your son, well, I don't know of diets for tourettes, however, I am a strong believer in diet and supps for a variety of neurological challenges. Often children with tics/tourettes also have other challenges that may be helped by diet. I just go with a really healthy organic, low sugar, no junk/additives diet. I also give Omega 3's, digestive enzymes and probiotics. Can't seem to find anything else that is consistently helpful.

It hasn't really cut back on tics. For my kids the only thing that helps the tics is ignoring them and waiting them out. My oldest dd's tics are related to her seizure disorder so her seizure meds help her tics.

However, typically, unless the tics are very severe or interfering in the childs life they are rarely medicated. Tics are very common in childhood and often fade as they get older. Some children do have pain from some tics or they may get teased and then meds may be considered.

I wish I knew more about diet and supps specifically for tics. We have a bunch but they aren't that interfering or the kids biggest issues so we just ignore them and ride them out.
