The kids started school last Wednesday and not too bad so far.
I had some reservations with Everett going to catholic school but in my opinion things have gone rather smoothly so far. Everett on the other hand thinks things are going horribly and that his teacher has it in for him. He talks like the teacher is singling him out when she assigns homework, when the entire class is getting the same amount of homework. He always sees the glass as half empty. Granted he had a horrible school year last year so he doesn't have much faith in school right now. He said that he wasn't challenged at all last year but also said he didn't expect to be challenged as much as he is now. He started the first day already knowing one classmate from summer camp. The one thing that he will have to work very hard on is his handwritting. I am going to have him do as much as possible on the computer, but the teacher really wants him to improve his handwritting. I don't know how much he can improve but I think it is worth a try. If he writes slow he can write very nicely. I love the fact that the teacher provided the entire class with homework assignment calendars. So far he has been really great about getting the assignments down correctly and doing his homework. I have had to push him some, but no more that you would any other child. The hardest part is that he will have a book report due every Friday. It is something he can handle he is just very negative when it comes to his reading skills. My sister is a great help. She always knows just what to say to him to get him to do his work. He will also tell her about his day but won't always tell me. I don't really like that but I am trying really hard to get too pushy with that. Everett has good reason to not want to tell somethings since my ex-husband use to always find the negative in every thing Everett did no matter how much good there was. So I think he has a bit of a trust issue there, so by me giving him some space hopefully he will be able to open up to me and understand that I won't be negative.
I have to post the kids in their uniforms soon. Not enough time in the day.
