No it's not too early-Christmas ideas?

While I'm here, I have another quick Q.
As the baby is due right around Christmas and I am the worst Christmas shopper and always leave it too late, I know I need to get my act together before the beached whale I am can't even waddle out the door.

Quintin (6) loves loves loves his Leap Pad so we looked into a Leapster but he wasn't that interested in the demo one at the store so we skipped it. Rather than a gaming system we bought the pacman plug and play which he is quite content with. the games are simple and familiar to me. It is just the joystick and a couple of buttons so not too much dexterity is needed. He plays with it in spurts--not so much lately but I expect it to come out more once the weather turns cooler.
I've bought the Discovery Toys marble works set so far for Christmas not the new one but the old one(thank goodness for Ebay). His ST has one and he is always wanting to play with it. Piraka Outpost and the medieval creature set from Lego, Pirates version of Life, some books, and some music cds, oh and more kapla blocks. I like to be done early too. He is really wanting some spy stuff (not sure what that is) and a snap electronics set. Usually he asks for some toy that he thinks he will like from Santa when in reality I am much better at picking out things that will get played with. Heather
Isaac still plays with his LeapPad but we have not looked into the Leapster yet.
Our kids got so frustrated with the LeapPad systems (we've had four in all) that we never invested in the Leapster. We did though, at one point, have Pixters and they were a total waste of money, IMHO.
Yep...we're a Gameboy family. I hate it, but there are times that they come in really handy. For example, yesterday our middle child was the flower girl in a wedding. The other two were "stuck" with nothing to do for several hours at a time over the weekend. Thank heavens for the Gameboys! They both like to read, but are easily distracted when lots of people are around, and then they struggle to "find their place" again, and overall get irritated with the whole reading experience. With the Gameboys, they were quiet, entertained, and pretty well behaved. :-)

My ds has had all the AGE appropriate Leap Frog toys since birth. He is 3 and now working with his First LeapPad. I LOVE THEM. They help with is OT and following directions etc.....
I can honestly say that is one brand of toy that i will ALWAYS buy. The company I owe many thanks too for all the help it has given to my son.

I agree, Amy. We get so frustrated w/ the Leap Pad stuff. I think partly because so much of it is auditory and all my kids, even those that are NT, have difficulty w/ auditory commands and following those types of directions. AND DH and I both have auditory sensitivities-- any toy that makes noise is too much for me, children make enough noise. We have 2 leappad systems and the pens are off again/ on again working, the volume is always too loud, the pages tear out. I looked at the Leapster but since we already have 3 gameboys it seemed like a waste of money. We LOVE the gameboys. We have dinosaur (very old) gameboys-- a gameboy pocket and 2 gameboy advance but we have lots of games and they still work. We get them out when we're driving to Illinois (15 hrs to both our parents) or when they have to wait a long time for a sibling at a lesson. We love that the sound can be turned down/off. We love that they're really portable as well.

My parents & grandparents live in Fulton County, Dh's mom lives in DeKalb county (most of his family live in the southwest suburbs(Aurora area), one brother is in Indianapolis). I have one brother that lives in Keokuk, IA, another that lives between Quincy and Beardstown, another that lives in the Chicago 'burbs. My sister lives in Chicago (Hyde Park). When we were first married we lived in Rockford, then moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin for 12 yrs, moved to South Carolina 2 yrs ago. Our best friends from Sheboygan now live in Decatur. (did I cover enough of the state? heehee)

Besty - You sure did! I was born and raised in Quincy...spent several years in the Springfield area (during that time my husband provide PT to injured workers in BEARDSTOWN hahaha)...and am currently in Peoria. It seems like we move a little more North every few years. :-)
Heather - this state stinks when it comes to services. That's all there is to it. We have found a decent doctor in Bloomington. There is the "Hope School" in Springfield, which I've heard great things about. Our youngest was finally dx'd through Easter Seals, and I know that the Chicago area has some great resources through Easter Seals. You might check out their website. Sorry I don't have more to offer.

We already have most of Stephen's toys on lawaway now for Christmas. I am a very early shopper. We also have the starwars transformers too. The leap game is a wonderful choice for your child, and I would encourage you to get it. It also teaches learning, and the games are wonderful in keeping the interest. Stephen loved his. We are now into the PS2 games.
