School Psychologist discussing auditory amplification system for Mike....

First - "Why would you want that, he will just become dependent on it we just need to keep repeating and get him used to it (following directions)" (hmmmm kind of like not to be dependent on my glasses but no matter how hard I try I still walk into walls without.

and sample 2 "well it might work out now, but ya know in middle school they would have ot have one for each teacher and the teachers may not want to use them" (didn't know they had a choice if it was in the IEP.

Dear Renee,

Wow that's pretty stupid. Almost as good as OUR idiot psych hearing of Malcolm's upset with sudden change of policy at favorite restaurant and his consequent anger === "Well, he's just going to have to learn to get over things like that!"

Huh? Is that her clinical recommendation? Where did she get her psych degree, the "Get Over It" School of Psychology? Maybe alongside Dr. Phil?

Malcolm's auditory processing is also showing up to be very bad, although it sounds like Mike's might be even worse, poor baby.

Using favorite analogy -- but in middle school, all those teachers may not want to deal with larger doors and ramps so a child in a wheelchair can participate as a full class member...

Sigh. IDEA. If it's convenient for the tcachers.

yours,

I hope you actually said to her "I didn't knkow they had a choice if its in the IEP". The sad thing is most parents don't know their rights and fall for that crap.

oh, man, I'd be all over those comments!

"DUH???? and you are a school psychologist? and yes, It really doesn't matter what they want, they have to follow the IEP" (at least on paper!)

Well, the actually comment about teachers not wanting too came first and so I just said in a nice way it doesn't matter if they don't want to if it is what he needs. But she shouldn't worry, I will deal with that then.

Over all I have liked this psychologist and Mike's teacher liked her when I asked at the beginning of the testing. Actually I believe it was "well she is pretty new to the school so I don't know for sure but so far she seems really good".

I WANT to like this lady. I DONT want another fight on my hands but I won't really have a fight.

You see, my favoritest district person that I always talk about. The one I turn to when I need something. Well she is the former school psych for our school and an awesome one. In meetings and such she automatically shuts down stuff like that and lets everyone know her interpretations and input if she believes it is neccessary. Plus I have already heard she is going to look over the report for Mike and help score one part of it.

But I see the school psych today and I may put her in her place over the "dont want to become dependent" thing. I just sat there with my mouth open in shock when she said that but it needs to be addresseed.
