At Peter's annual checkup his urine tested positive for blood.

This is not a new thing. Just over a year ago, he had a nasty UTI, had to see a urologist, had lingering traces of blood in his urine even after

I like your plan and I would add one more level to it. Maybe 2

First, I would consider a second oppinion from a urologist. They would actually have the better info if the willie handling is the culprit. And if the blood is from willie handling is he doing any damage from said handling?

Or another route would be to just stick with your plan, devise a positive behavior plan of some sort to cut down on the handling over the long term and test again perhaps in another month or 6 months to be sure that there is no more blood in said urine.

Don't like the idea of kidney biopsy, sounds way nasty. However, you don't want to miss something important either due to lack of test (says woman who took home son with appendicitis because she didn't want to do blood test).

That is why I would suggest a follow up even if the next one is clear to make sure it stays clear.

yeah, good plan.

I will put a call into his urologist about willie handling, and do follow-ups with the testing.

...just remembered a funny story:

We went to a theme restaurant for his birthday last year, and one of the characters (the one Peter was interested in) kept disappearing. He asked "where is (say)

You know, my dad had kidney cancer (kidney later removed) and they did not perform a kidney biopsy on him! They put him through special xrays and whatnot. I would really, really avoid that kidney biopsy because it just sounds so awful; invasive. I'm no expert, of course, but that seems so terribly invasive and painful. Oh, how hard this must be for you! I'm so sorry! I agree with mama rbear about the urologist. Maybe they would have more specialized urine tests even (I have no idea). I think the young pdoc means well, but would this be something he'd do to his child? YKWIM? And what are the risks of such a procedure? I don't envy this devil's choice you are in. Big hug to you!

I say trust your instincts. It sounds to me you've made the right decision.

How scary! I am freaked out by urinary problems.....I worked for a large group of OB/GYNs and they had this special room for urodynamics.....it was for women with incontinence issues......looked like a freakin torture chamber......scaried the begeevers out of me just to look at it......((shudder))

I think you have a very solid plan......like everyone else said.....follow your gut.

Regarding the pirate story......do you think your son thought the pirate had to urinate an awful lot or did he think the pirate had "handling" issues as well?.....LOL!

Oh and Christie,

I think the UTI experience wasn't far behind him, and he remembered how frequently he had to urinate when he had that, so he was concerned for the dude...
