Auditory Eval

Finally gonna really do it. Got an auditory eval for Mike today. I really think the kid has some sort of hearing issue that I have to at least rule out. I was looking at this eval for hearing speech and speech in noise. I think that may be the one. So wish us luck. Be nice to have some answers.

BTW, (no one turning in graves please or dropping dead) also looking into the possible low dose PRN med for Mike. GASP I know. I just can't have the poor kid falling apart and hurting other or himself or things when there is some sort of change in his life.

His Aide is AWESOME though. I was really worried about today. He had more testing for his eval he had to do starting at 10. Well she went and they took lots of long breaks, sensory stuff, took it slow and she was very in-tune to Mike. She prepped him in advance, etc. And he had a great day. She SOOOOOOOOOOO better be staying with him when he goes to middle school.

The Auditory eval sound like a good plan. I need to get that done for both kids (and probably myself, actually)

I am probably tired, but what's PRN?

Per Required Need. In otherwords not all the time, just as needed.

I am hoping for a low dose risperadol he wouldn't take all the time, just when extra stressed. I don't want him on it all the time as the food obsession I am afraid could become intense.

Gasp!!!! PRN?!?!?! (Okay, me too, what's PRN?) Whatever it is, don't feel bad. It may actually help him greatly.

You know those hormones affect hearing and our kids clearly have endocrine problems. I test fine on regular hearing tests, but it's the processing I have a hard time with. Someone says something and I hear the words, but it's like "wah wah wah", but then a few seconds later the translation comes in. Also, for some reason, low tones are very difficult for me to hear. Also, if a person is not facing me, I can't hear them. I do fine on hearing tests though. The kind where the headphones are on and piped right into your ears. I don't think the kind I had reflected the kind of processing issues i have going on. I hear fine, don't process normal. Also, my poor attention span does a number on me. Someone can be trying to talk to me and then I notice or hear another noise...and they completely cancel eachother out because they compete equally for processing so I miss the details on both events. It sucks and I often feel pretty dumb or perform poorly.

Interesting study recently came out showing hormone replacement therapy for menopausal women caused hearing loss.

I wish you both luck. I'm interested in how they do the hearing eval. I'm having aggression issues with my oldest today that brought me back to bottom again so I truly understand. I often feel that I must have been very naughty in a past life to require so many lessons in this one.
