Nope!
You are being the excellent Momma you always are.
nope your not too protective.
Cait has been "on" neopets for over a year now. There are different levels of membership. Under the age 13 they cannot use neomail or the message boards unless they have written parent consent. I haven't given it. I found out yesterday that Cait had gotten someones old account that had that attached (sneaky teen, lol) and she has lost computer access for a while.
I checked all her neomail and messages with her with me and they are all safe and innocent. She also has a home email that I have high parent controls on and I read and she knows I read. Someone told her to get a free yahoo email which she did and that also cost her huge in computer time.
She is under strict orders never to use her real name or post any personal info which I have checked and I have never seen her do. This is for memberships as well. She has a few on a variety animal role play type boards (show dogs, horse ones) On these like NP they can pretend they own what ever, breed, raise them, write stories about them, shop for them, etc. So I have allowed that because of the skills they teach.
Like I told her, it isn't that I don't trust her. There are lots of bad people who use the internet and I don't trust.
I will likely let her keep the account with the email and message boards as long as I have the login and password for it as well. However, she is 12 1/2, not 6 and I am just now starting to allow it somewhat.

Thanks,
Siobhan acted like I had torn out her heart and stomped on it.
But Renee, you raise some good points. Kids can get into a security zone in a little corner of the net and totally not realize the dangers. They think everyone they 'meet' there is just like them. Adults can do it too, BTW.

You are a smart Mama to tow the line on the internet with your daughter. You never know what might happen. Emails start out innocent, and then lead to trouble. It has been shown over and over again.
Lucky for us, Steven only cares about the internet for power ranger info on bandai, power ranger central, and what DVD is coming on our netflix. I know internet access will grow one day. I am glad that this is still far off, and hopefully will stay that way for a while.
