Lunch issues.

I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with lunch.David rarely eats lunch at school which isn't the problem. The problem that has started this year is he refuses and is very vocal about not wanting to eat lunch. He throws a big fit about it.This is new for this year.I am not sure what is setting him off.It doesn't matter if he brings his lunch from home which he does 3-4 days a week or buys his lunch in the cafeteria.I am beginning to think that maybe lunch is over whelming for him. When I bring him a fast food lunch or have sat with him for lunch I can get him to eat.I am thinking that it's too noisy and too much going on and he is too distracted thus his out bursts. What do you think?I am having a meeting next week with his sped teacher his gened teacher and the school psycholigest. The school psychologist supposedly observed him today and is going to offer some suggestions to help him with lunch.I was wondering if anyone has had to deal with this before and if so what helped your kiddo at lunch. Thanks

Wow, lunches seem to be an issue around here.
Mike used to refuse to eat and recently has gotten into a few scraps at lunch but things have been much better overall. For the lunch fights he was having problems waiting in the line in the heat, all the pushing and shoving. So I packed his lunch and his aide took him straight to the tables. That seems to have worked.
Lunch is unstructured, overstimulating time for our kids. Completely nuts.
I would 1) request through IEP that he be able to eat somewhere quiet like the classroom or RSP room but still has his play time because it is not punishment. Maybe even make it special for him somehow. And 2) pack some of his most favorite things in the WHOLE world for lunch for a bit. Mike LOVES deli sandwiches and yogurt. That really motivated him to eat the packed lunch.
When I was having a hard time getting Mike to eat I found chocolate flavored protein bars were a life saver. I am more careful now on brands (don't want all that sugar and junk) but there are some good ones and sometimes you really just gotta eat! Clif bars are pretty good. I also used to make some muffins homemade and added extra protein powder to them. The other night I made "chocolate pancakes". Little did the kids realize it was organic pancake flour and healthy chocolate proten powder. Topped with fresh fruit and voila, breakfast for dinner. Would make a great snack to pack rolled up.

Yes, we just dealt with this with our dd. She is noe eating lunch in a small room with another classmate. Wednesday was her first day doing this. She's happy about it and is actually eating now.

Yes, lunch is very hard like others mentioned. We started Sravan eat his lunch in the office, and now he is taking upon himself to eat at the lunch table. We are doing the wait and see game to see if can maintain calmness.
