and got dd meds for her anxiety. She is taking a low dose of prozac.

We went to a new doctor who I loved! I can't beleive I'm saying that. I didn't think it was possible, lol. She spent 2 hours with us yesterday, first with me alone, and then she brought dd in. She documented the bruises and said the school would be hearing from her. She also suggested I find a yoga class for dd. I'm going to try again to find a therapist too. The Doctor said she heard of a music therapist in town.

I'm nervous about the prozac but it is the most prescribed/best success rate medicine for Selective Mutism. She's taking 10mg which the Dr and pharmacist said was a low dose but I'm worried its still to high. But I'll just watch her very close for side effects.

We are flyig to Indiana tomorrow. My BIL is getting married. DD is a flower girl, ds a ring bearer, and dh a grooms man. It will be nice to get away and have a distraction.

I am glad you found a doctor you like and I am also glad all of you are getting away for a nice family occasion. You all need a break after this week.

I wanted to say yoga has really helped Eric with relaxation techniques. We don't go to a class, just have a video. We just sort of happened into it. Someone gave Eric this "yogakids" video as a gift. It came with a little mat and a few other items. The breathing exercises are cute, if a bit corny at times ("om a little teapot!" for example). We do it together to the video sometimes. It's like being in a class with the teacher and there are kids doing the exercises.

The company is GAIAM (I think the website is www.gaiam.com) I have seen the little yoga kits with video in Target.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I just looked at the website, it's a little hard to navigate. Go to "dvd's, videos, music, and more" at the upper right of the home page. Then look for "Yogakids." We have the single dvd "Yogakids 1" but the others look cute too. They also have different ones for different ages, if you are interested.

Bye again!

We've never stuck with anything long enough that I can identify a measureable benefit, but my kids did enjoy the kids yoga video we got from the library. After doing it a few times, though, they got bored and didn't want to keep doing it. I think it was on this board that someone turned me onto the Indigo Dreams CD with relaxation techniques. Again, I don't know that I can measure a quantitative benefit, but the kids enjoyed listening to it. They listened to it every night for several nights in a row before they burned out and didn't want to hear it again. They still listen to it occasionally. I keep hoping that if they hear/try enough things that eventually some of it will stick.

a low dose of prozac made a huge difference for my son. it took away much of his anxiety. for months life was so much better. he could try different things, was easy to work with, no meltdowns but he was no overmedicated. the downfall for son was that because he is bipolar the prozac made him manic. hope it works well for your daughter. it also makes a big difference if mom likes the dr.

Samantha,

I can't remember how old your dd is? Nathan is really having focus and anxiety issues this year. I know that meds may be in our near future.....but still a bit early to tell. Let us know how the meds workout.

Hope you have a nice relaxing time. It is nice to get away.

Please keep us posted. Prozac has been recommended for my 7yr. old DS and DH and I are reluctant, but have not ruled it out. I am really interested to hear how it works out for you.

Samantha,

How is it working? Any updates?

Unfortunately for us it seems that either the risperadol isn't working or it needs to be raised. He already tried to start getting 2 lunches at school and I really don't want to raise it. Food at home as well is already becoming an issue. He was always a big eater anyway so it is hard to know. He is starting to get a middle, but a week at camp with camp food could have been it. Plus they got him on an obsession up there not to waste any food or "make Ort".

He has had 3 so-so to icky days in a row. Some crying outbursts, some anger outbursts and today just completely overstimulated and making loads of noises. Yelling more at his brother again.

Maybe it takes the edge off, hard to say. Only time will tell.
