They're taping next Thursday and asked me to be a part of the audience. I'm allowed to bring one other adult (must be over 18) and we have to be there at 7:00 a.m.
Well DH happens to be off that day, but we're not sure if we'll be able to find childcare so we can make the three hour trip to Chicago. I could leave him with the kids, but to be honest, I don't have any friends who I would ask to go with me.
So, I'm not sure if we'll be able to participate or not. But I'll keep you posted. :-)
Amy

Oh, you so have to go.
A friend of mine went to a Dr. Phil show on BP because she had BP children and was in the audience. Another friend went to the Ellen Show for some similar reason. They got TONS of gifts and awesome goodies to help out.
Oprah is the BOMB! If she is doing a show on autism and stacking the audience with autism parents I would bet that she has something like that in mind maybe even helpful. You gotta at least give it a try!

Damn, Amy,
I'll get a cheap ticket and fly out for that! Come in Wed. and stay over, fly back Thurs evening? If my dh will let me and if the stars all line up, next Thurs? The one in the middle of Passover week, April 5?
Never say never to me. I'm gonna ask him, look online for prices. I actually have lots of pals in Chicago still from attending college at NU and acting there so long ago that I was actually young...
Sara
Amy,
I'm totally rooting for you to go! We need soem representation on Oprah.
...and if Sara can make it too, well, so much the better.

By the time DH returned from work, he had already decided that I WAS going, regardless of who (if anybody) went with me. Quote, "You've given up so much for these kids, especially over the last year, there's no way you're not going to do this."
So...he made me transfer some money from savings, and book a room for Wednesday night. Luckily, I've managed to figure out how to book our favorite hotel on Hotwire. (Sara- it's the Allegro. Too bad I can't swing the $ for a show since there's a HotTix right down the street! Hmmm...wonder what, if anything, is playing at the Cadillac these days???)
If my mom can make it work, she'll stay with the kids and DH and I will go. But I won't know about her availability until tomorrow as she's unavailable for consultation tonight. Darn "Friday in Lent" fish fry!
If she can't, DH will stay home with the kids and I'll take the train up by myself. WOW...now that's a scary thought. I've never traveled alone. Hmmm...might be one heck of an adventure!
Amy
Dear Amy,
That's great!!! I do hope your DH can go, 'cuz it would be so appropriate for you to be there together. Flights are available, so let me know if he can't and I'll see what I can do. And not to worry, I would spring for seeing a show and a drink or 2 afterwards...
Sara
ROFLOL! Amy, if my parents who are absolute country bumpkins can take the train from Galesburg to Chicago (they did last weekend) you can do it! I'm so glad your DH planned it so you could go... I'm hoping you both get to go together!
Betsy
WOW...DH gets yet another vote for Husband Of The Year!
Once my mother agreed to come up and stay with the kids, DH insisted that I take HER with me to Chicago, and he'd stay home with the kids. At 73 she's only been to Chicago two other times...and this will be, by far, the closest thing to a "brush with celebrity" she'll ever encounter. :-)
I'm a little concerned about traveling with her because she insists that I'm still 17 and couldn't possibly be competent enough to make my way around "The Big City". LOL If only she knew just how well I know it! But get this...our round trip train tickets only cost $24 each. How flippin' cheap is that???
Shhhh...don't tell my DH, but in my heart, I'm a tad disappointed. My adventurous side was hoping to get the chance to go-it-alone and meet up with Sara on the journey!
Amy
Dear Amy,
But that is very cool! And you and your mom will enjoy yourselves. You of course will let us know how the whle thing goes and we will all watch for you and mom in the audience. Years ago, my sister and mom went to a taping of Phil Donahue Show and the camera went to my sister's face watching a whole buncha times!
And the greatest news is : YOU ARE GOING!!! That's super.
Maybe we'll do another adventure sometimes!
Sara
Amy,
I forgot to ask the Most Important Question:
When is this taping going to air?
