Lily's having surgery tomorrow

Lily is finally having her tonsils/adnoids removed tomorrow. She was supposed to have the surgery last year in Nov., but her blood work came back a little funny so it was delayed until we could get clearance from the hematologist. By the time we got the okay, we were in the process of moving and our insurance changed. I'm so glad that she's finally getting this surgery done. Her tonsils are off the charts and she snores, has apnea, breathes with her mouth open, chokes on her food easily, and she requires way more sleep than most children her age. We're hoping to see some great improvements after her surgery. I do hate to have her put under, though. She's been sedated several other times for things like MRIs, tubes in ears, and a nerve biopsy. But, I don't think it ever gets any easier for the parents (or the kids). The last time she was sedated, she woke up extremely agitated and kept trying to pull her iv out. We've been trying to explain to her that she is going to be sore afterwards, but that once she is healed, she is going to feel much better. I'm just scared that she's going to refuse to drink after her surgery. She's allergic to milk, so ice cream is out. But, hopefully she will be agreeable to a popsicle or slushie or something. She loves applesauce, and the nurse said that would be a great thing for her to eat after the surgery. Well, I guess that's about it. If any of you have any advice for how to explain this to a 4.5 yr old with ASD, I would greatly appreciate it. Hopefully she will do great and it will behind us soon.

Your family (especially Lily) will be in my prayers.
Henry had his tonsils removed this past summer when he was 6. Everything turned out fine, but he was pretty sore and miserable for a couple weeks afterward.
Here is to a good day having Lily's tonsils out.
For awhile they backed away from that. But now it seems to be the in procedure again.
How is Lily with Jello? Any color but the red ones.. I am sure there is an organic one out there. Also check and see if there is soy pudding? Also I know if you go to an Organic food store Like Whole Foods you can find non dairy ice creams made from Rice milk or Soy have you tried any of that stuff? Good luck

Poor little gal, but I hope all goes well for you. My dd was just telling me she'd read the other day that some doctors are saying having tonsils/adenoids (sp?) removed helps improve ADHD problems. I threatened to take all the kids in for surgery until my AS kids started getting a bit freaked out by the idea. I had to reassure them that the docs wouldn't do it just to improve ADHD and that insurance wouldn't pay for it without a good medical reason. I'd love to hear whether any of you see/have seen a difference after your kids had the surgery.
Best wishes for a smooth and easy recovery.
Hugs and Prayers headed your way.

Taking out Liam's adenoids was a huge help with sleep/behavior.
Awwww poor thing. And for her to try to understand being so young and have AS and all.
I had mine out at 20, and it wasn't fun at all, but I have been told its much worse when your older than when your young, so I hope she sails thru this.
Well "Tomorrow" is now today. I am bumping this up as a little reminder to myself.
