My baby has STREP. Dang it.

I took both my kids to the ped today. Doc M checked out Henry first. Basically, Henry has had a terrible cough and a gross stuffy, snotty nose for a week. Doc said that Henry would be fine and that he just needed allergy meds.

Then he looked at Mark. He looked in his ears (which were surprisingly clear), checked his heartbeat, then looked in his mouth. The second he looked in Mark's mouth, he exclaimed, "He's got STREP!" Booo. No, no, no, no, thanks anyway. But he really does. So Doc M gave me a prescription for antibiotics for both kids.

Poor Mark, btw--he was up at 4am this morning just jabbering away. I think he was delirious, because when Glen and I went in there to give him some more ibuprofen, he was BURNING UP and shivering with fever. Our ear thermometer said his temp was 102.1, then 45 minutes after I gave him ibuprofen, it registered at 103.3!

My kids are being demanding at the moment, so I'll have to finish now.

More later.

I wanted to add two things--

1. When Henry was a baby, Doc M told me that babies hardly ever get strep which means--Mark isn't a baby anymore!! Boo-hoo. I just wish I knew who told those strep germs.

2. I have no idea if PANDAS is an issue with Henry and really have no idea how to go about finding out, but he had chronic strep starting at about age 3 1/2, so Mark having strep now is nerving me out a little.

Hope he feels better soon.

((((((Mark)))))))

Strep stinks. Siobhan had her firct strep infection at 9 mos old. I had to argue with the Dr for 10 minutes before he would even test her because he kept insisting that "babies under one don't get Strep"

It's true that Mark has snuggled in my lap and wanted me more today and yesterday than he ever has before in his 21 months of life. I've been soaking that up, but Henry (who is the natural-born cuddly one) is not too crazy about it. And I want Mark to feel better.

I hope they both start feeling better - high fevers are scary.

I'm sorry the boys aren't well. Kyle used to get strep all the time. I just read last week the the Biotene dry mouth toothpaste and gum are supposted to inhibit strep. They are enzyme based. We just started using the the toothpaste. Its sweet and doens't foam as much as regular toothpaste. Kyle likes that. Anyway, I hope they are feeling better soon++++++++++ Don't forget to use extra probiotics with the antibioitics.
