I watched it. I loved it. I feel refreshed it wasn't the same ol same with the whole "segments of autism speaks movie"
I loved the way it was outlined and explained.

2 thumbs up

I didn't get to see the whole thing. I was a bit disappointed in this one segment, I am really glad to hear the piece it self was much better. I am sorry I missed it. Of course wehn I mentioned it in advance Dh gave me the "Why do you watch all those things" line. I don't know, why do you have to see the Cowboy Junkies EVERY DANG tiem they come to town?

LOL Cowboy Junkies...

I watched the show and asked Malcolm if he wanted to watch with me. He asked what was autism exactly and I told him a little about the disconnections in the brain. He immediately knew which kids at his ASD school were severe autism, like the first kid in the Nick piece. He did realize that he's a "little teeny bit like this, but hardly at all". But he got very sad/edgy watching the first boy with his family, the sister crying, the home therapist and then didn't want to watch any more, "too painful".

I had hoped he would watch the later pieces about the boy with Asperger's, the piano jazz boy whom he would admire, the hockey playing, but he wouldn't stick around after that. Malcolm is more like that piano boy or maybe the hockey boy except much more animated and engaging when talking, loads and loads of humor. And he and his friends are all so social and outgoing, so again he doesn't see himself in discussions about the social difficulties of spectrum kids.

Later we did talk about the 2 boys he knows and how people are continuing to work with them but it is hard for them to talk and really have a conversation. And I am not unhappy that Malcolm still doesn't as yet see himself as all that different from the rest of the world, just as having certain challenges!! He is such a self-confident, happy boy these days.
