Okay I'm sending a letter to the director of spec ed regarding my son. Here is a copy but I'm terrible at putting words together sometimes to state what I mean and sometimes I have problems sounding professional lol. So I am asking for opinions on this letter, and if anyone can give me some tips or help I would love that. Thanks, Lainie
Here it is....
Ms. Katy ********
Director of Special Education
Visalia Unified School District
Dear Ms *****,
On August 14th my husband and I attended an IEP meeting for my son Christopher ******* regarding a speech assessment he had over the summer. He was denied an IEP because he didn't qualify for speech. But the tests that were performed in my opion still didn't addresse his cluttering and fluency issue's I have concern about.
I asked Ms ******** (The SLP) if she had brought the tape recorded session she did when she first met Chris. I also asked if she brought the Video I had personally taken of Chris to show her the cluttering in his language that I am worried about. She didn't bring either. If she had I could have shown everyone exactly what my concern was.
I stated in the meeting that I did not feel comfortable signing the IEP, altho I ended up signing at the end. I now wish to rescind my signature as I still feel very uncomfortable that his speech problem has not been addressed.
I also would like to have a copy of the tape Ms. ******* tape recorded in the first session.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Thank you,
Elaine *******

Oooh I forgot, should I also put in this letter about another eval, and I want to request a therapist who has had some training or gone to some workshops run by Michelle Garcia Winner?
Or should that be written separately?
Dear Ms *****,
On August 14th my husband and I attended an IEP meeting for my son Christopher ******* regarding a speech assesment conducted over the summer. He was denied an IEP because he did not qualify for speech, however, the tests that were performed did not address his cluttering and fluency issues that are of great concern.
Ms ******** (The SLP) brought neither the recorded session she did when she first met Chris, nor the video I had provided of Chris demonstrating the cluttering in his language. If these items had been provided, I believe you would have a better understanding of my concerns as well as a better understanding of Christopher's speech problems.
I stated in the meeting that I did not feel comfortable signing the IEP, however, I mistakenly signed it. I now wish to recind my signature as I still feel very uncomfortable that his speech problems have not been addressed.
Furthermore, I am also requesting a copy of the tape Ms. ******* tape recorded in the first session.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Thank you,
Elaine *******
Hope that helps!
Lydia
OMG thats great!!! Thank you Lydia. I am always so bad at typing what I mean and for it to come out right lol.
I found out I can just get a template from Steph for the IEE I'm also going to request.
Lainie
