Sweetie make sure you tell the doctor about the move. They might not have to do anything at all. It may all be his stress with changes.

Everytime we moved or my kids had a major changes in their life (like moving), they would freak out, get rages and have potty problems....

I'm sure it will work itself out. It sounds like he's regressing, which I think is pretty normal for Autistics isn't it?

If he is blocked can you buy some Seneca? It's a natural, non habit forming, safe for kids med that you can buy over the counter. It will naturally unblock him. Try that first and see what happens.

Other things like extra water and excersize also helps.

Good luck hon, I really feel your pain because my boys went thru the same thing.

Debbie,
The best thing that worked for my son, constipation and anxiety, is magnesium citrate. You can start with 100mg and go up to 400mg (depending on his poop situation ofcourse because it can cause diareah).

take care,

I'm curious about Seneca. Is it the same as Senna? I know that senna based products ARE habit-forming, though our pediatric GI said it's still generally okay for younger patients because they have the ability to regain muscle tone that older people don't have.

Some other things you can try for the bowels are:

* Pro-biotics (they're beneficial, but they don't help enough for significant bowel troubles, and it takes several days before you see full benefit)

* Benefiber or Miralax (both easily hidden in drink; mild, non-habit forming, no taste)

* Magnesium citrate (cloyingly sweet; my kids hate it)

* Magnesium vitamin supplements

* Milk of magnesia

* Mineral oil (or emulsified mineral oil which is less foul and more easily hidden in milk/choc milk; brand name Kondremul, but may have to ask pharmacist to order it)

I hope you find a solution that works for you. I think the bowel troubles were the least favorite part of AS for us! At least dd & ds are old enough now that I only have to administer their laxatives, not clean their messes. Blech!

Debbie,

I forgot to post. If it IS constipation or impacted bowels, the doc would probably have you do an initial bowel cleanout with a stimulant laxative (usually a senna-based product like Senekot or ex-lax chocolate squares), then follow up with daily doses of a non-stimulant, mild laxative (Benefiber, Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, Mineral oil, etc) until you work through this problem. (Constipation is one area I DO feel more competent offering advice since 12yo AS dd has had severe problems with it her whole life, and 8yo AS ds has had mild problems on and off.)

Best wishes!

(((Debbie)))

Sorry to hear about Issac. I am sure the move is stressful for him. Adam FREAKED when we moved and wasn't even dx'ed when we did move..........

To this day he still wants to go by our old home....
Hang in there. Moving SUX overall but, in this case your shoulders have to be extra broad cause Issac will need you.

((hugs))

I think you probably should go to the doctor with the bowel issues.
