My nephews son was diagnosed with AS

He is 19 months old and we have known there was something wrong since he was born. I can't seem to find any info about babies with AS, just older kids. Does anyone know where to get info for babies? The biggest concerns we have had with him are, he can't eat food without gagging, and he will sit by himself and just laugh and laugh. I know that sounds like angelman syndrome, which is way worse than AS so I am looking to see if those symptoms match AS also. Any advice, or info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello and welcome,

It is very nice of you to go out of your way for your great-nephew. I wish we all had family who is so supportive.

It is unusual for AS to be diagnosed so young. I know we have a few members here whose kids were 2 or 3 when diagnosed and I am hoping they stop by and give you some better advice than I can.

My son (actually both my kids) were of the type that had a few issues as babies, (e.g. my son craved movement) but developed pretty normally until about 19 months and then had a huge regression and lost all skills. It took us a while from there to get a diagnosis.

heya Mary, welcome aboard!

I want to echo Paula's happiness that this little guy has such a supportive family.

I am also amazed that he was dx so early....it's amazing to me that they can figure this out so early now :).
