We're trying to hold off for awhile on this ourselves. I'm trying to gather more info before we dive into it. Right now she's currently on Prozac and I'd rather find our magic number with that drug before we add anything in. Could be that the magic dose of prozac helps a lot and maybe she won't need the SSRI after all.
Em's 7 also - diagnosed Aspie and Anxiety Disorder, NOS. She's got a lot of the sensory issues, too.
My daughter (10 year old Aspie w/ general anxiety) is on Celexa. She's on a pretty low dose though... 15mg. We have had no problems with it at all. No side effects and her anxiety is much easier for her to deal with now. She used to have a horrible time picking at her skin and just feeling like she was going to explode. She hasn't had any of those issues for some time now.

We've had good and bad experiences with SSRI's. Both of our spectrum kiddos tried Celexa and both had horrible results. Our oldest essentially wanted to jump out of his skin, and our youngest did nothing but sleep and eat. I, personally, was on Celexa for 4 years and while I did well on it for the most part, I gained 30+ lbs. while on it.
We had our youngest on Zoloft for about 5 months and it seemed as though we had found a miracle drug. But we soon discovered that the med was throwing her into a "state of mania" and shortly thereafter she crashed and was recently diagnosed with co-morbid bipolar disorder.
I'd say SSRI's are hit and miss for most people. They're great for some, awful for others.
Good luck. I despise the med roller coaster, but so far, we've yet to come up with a viable alternative for our two children.

Weve needed to use so many many medinines for ds#1 (ASD/BP/ADHD). He's been on mood stabilizers,(lithium, tripletal) stimulants (ritilin, adderall, focalin) as well as Anti psychotics (abilify, geodon, risperdal); however we've never used an ssri. I have been on lexapro for the last two years (nicer version of celexa), and it's been my saving grace.
Liam (ds#1) has been very irritable, mean spirited and just plain off these last few weeks, I am almost ready to discuss an anti-anxiety med with his pdoc. I have heard luvox can be a good fit with ASD kids.

Ds was on prozac and xanax for a short time.
