Well that's just plain silliness. Could dh take the day and allow Claire stay home? I only suggest this as we've done similar in the past. Still stupidity on the district's part!

Dearest Amy,
Ditto what Dee said! Let Daddy and Claire play hooky for the day, that is definitely a good idea. That's what I would do.
yours,
Sara

See that's the stupid part...THEY'RE HAVING THE TRAINING AGAIN IN JANUARY!!!
It is likely one of those lesser of evils things. This training has to be done. All those staff need it pronto and the training is likely only offered every few months or a couple times a year (ours isn't offering it until Nov. so I am stuck with my kids cause even if I know how I can't legally physically assist them until I am trained in state).
It si hard. Right now I have been scheduled to be fully trained in TEACCH. It si a week long training which will be great for me and my class, however that means a sub for a week. UGH. I don't even want to think how my guys will do with that. I almost want to tell their moms to keep them home for a week but that wouldn't be good either.
There is no perfect world. Lets hope for one day they keep her demands really low and she has a good day.
As for the PART training (what it is called here) my assistant and I both need it. It is only offered in nov and maybe march and march is too long to wait. Plus if you don't get in early you lose your spot. Very likely both her adn I will be gone for that day.
In California is covers a lot moer than just full rages and totally violent behavior. Due to the Hughes bill we CANNOT lay a hand on a child AT ALL unless trained even for safety reasons. Have to call in another staff. I think this is a good law, but I do have children that can get aggressive or self injurious. For safety reasons i want us both trained.

Amy,
Hey all,
I have photographs of what untrained staff did to my son in 4-point restraint, which he has never in his life needed except at that particular school. I still might do something legal with those photos and a complaint, but I have been more focused on the good of my child and family for the past year. I only hope no other child has been injured in this past yaer.
I do have on my long list of things to do to send the school copies of the photographs with a print-out of the law that doesn't allow untrained staff to touch a child...
Sara
((((HUGS)))) I hope the day goes well. I know how hard it is to have a child melting often and not having a trusted adult right there. Poor kid!
