I was told from my son Doctor that it was just "ADHD" but my DH and I and everyone else that we talk to think other wise. Anyway, I give my son's school that info from the doctor and they told me that where he is that he is doing fine and they are not going to do anything to change it. So on Friday afternoon I get a phone call from his school and she telling me that we are going to have a "get together and talk" but when I called that school back someone else said it was a IEP Meeting. I just don't what to do. The school told me that they have been trying to get the doctor on the phone but she could not. So this meeting is going to happen on Tuesday afternoon. In the mean time my DS is having a hard time at school because he comes home and says that his teacher doesn't understand him. He also has been having more outburst or meltdowns and he has a hard time getting to bed and much, much more going on. The doctor said that we need to have a one-on-one aid or a smaller class room setting for DS, Speech and OT and a Service Dog but yet it is just "ADHD". We are looking into getting getting a second opinion. Also looking into seeing if he can't get State help or Federal help. I just at my end wits. What do you ladies think?

You can request that the school district do an evaluation so they can determine what services he needs in order to get his appropriate education.

Every meeting we have gets called an IEP by the school. I think it's their way of covering their butts and documenting everything. I also think the administrators want to be there to make sure the teacher and school psych don't promise anything thats going to cost them any dollars ;D I agree that a second opinion might be in order for your son. "Just ADHD" makes it sound like its a bit of a cold or something that is minor. Families that I know dealing with it certainly have their hands full. And Kids in my son's school with it always get an aide. If you are unsure or unprepared for the meeting don't commit to anything. Get a feel for what they want to do and schedule a follow up meeting. We were on a monthly meeting schedule last year and this year we met in September and December. We are schedule to meet again in February and in June so don't be afraid to take your time and get all the info you need before committing to anything. Good luck.
