Victor has another FRIEND!

We went to our first martial arts class Monday night. Victor had a meltdown during warm-ups but one of the Sensei's assistants sat down beside him and stretched with him. Victor didn't understand that if his legs were hurting, he could stop and rest and pick it back up when he was ready. I was explaining to one of the other assistants ( the Sensei has 5 assistants in this class because he's got kids that have had no training all the way up to a black belt in this class and he breaks them up into sections) I was explaining Asperger's to this assistant and to please not feel bad that Victor had a meltdown ( because this poor man was SOOO upset that he made one of the students cry) and another mom there said her son has Asperger's as well.

During one of their breaks, we introduced the boys. Come to find out they both love video games ( okay, I don't know too many 11 and 12 year old boys who don't like video games) they both have an obsession with animals, and they are both the 3rd ( as in namesakes) . Once we introduced them, neither boy cared about listening to the teacher and instead were acting as if they were best buds. After the class was over, Victor came up to me and said "Mom, I think I annoyed H. I don't think he likes me anymore". While he was telling me this, H went to his mom and said "Victor's my new friend." LOL.

It was so great to see Victor make a new friend and the fact that this friend is in Tae Kwon Do (which he SO did not want to go to) makes it that much better. Victor didn't want to take any martial arts, but once he got through the warm ups, he excelled and was in hog heaven. The instructors kept telling him how well his was doing with his stances. When we left there, he couldn't wait to go back on Thursday. I'm so excited that this has become a positive experience for him.

All this happened on Monday. Monday night I also learned that Victor's got a new quirk. He can't complete a worksheet unless he works it complete from the top to the bottom. He had to complete a worksheet on a family tree. His name was to go on the bottom and work up to the great grandparents. This drove Victor to such a distraction that he hid the paper from all of us ( me and the teachers). I discovered it last night and he explained what happened. I had to act as a scribe in order for us to complete the worksheet, but he completed it and turned it in. Thank goodness.

Thank you all for listening to my brags :)
