Sarcasm is hard for most little kids to understand much less a spectrum kid.

Our problem is the opposite. Our son uses sarcasm all the time trying to be funny and his teacher and classmates get really offended by it. I can't tell you how many notes home I have gotten about this issue. I know that he is just trying to make people laugh and I've explained it over and over to him and his teacher but he really can't tell the difference and the school keeps punishing him for it. Mix the sarcasm with all the other Aspie traits and you get a kid that very few teachers like. We keep working on it but it really is a slow process. If it makes you feel better when my son was 5 he would fly into a rage if anyone called him anything but Danny. He's gotten so much better at that. The other day he told me he doesn't care what people call him anymore. Daniel, Danny Phantom, D.W. are all o.k. Good for him!
