We have an allergist appointment for Rece next Tuesday!!! I am very excited to get moving on this.
On a slightly different note, for those of you who use natural/chemical free bath/cleaning products, what about kids training toothpaste?
And also the behavioral clinic has sent out all the paperwork for me to fill out and once they get it back I will be put on a 3-5 month waiting list! And then we will see a child psychologist, a neurologist, a developmental ped, and a speech path. YAY!!!! What should I expect with these appointments??? Especially the allergist?

So sorry gf, I was knee deep in cwazy kids today.
K, allergist. Liam's allergist (3 years ago) did a skin test, which meant lil' pin pricks on his back to test for many things (dairy, wheat etc) I brought lollipops (his fave kid) that he could suck on as the allergist's nurse pin pricked his back. Liam was obviously upset, but the sucking helped and he made it through ok. Afterward he was allowed pick any toy he wanted from Target, lol. Btw: we have no allergies here. This was all pre official dx.
Neurologist: Was at Kennedy Krieger. He will take a detailed history from you. It was a 4 hour appt with mini breaks. I believe though it should have been 8 hours over a few days (I think out NP was v. lazy. Basically Liam wasn't a hand flapper) I filled out loads of forms and parent questionaires, while Liam tested with the neuropsychologist. IQ tests, ADHD tests, NVLD tests, Autism tests,. We ended up with a dx of ADHD (well he was half right), and a great IQ and learning style evaluation.
Developmental ped: (also at KK) Will also meet for a history. She was set up as a second opinion based on the NP and she effectively backed up the NP's dx, although she pointed out some neat things like Liam's legs are different lengths (common in ADHD kids) and he had some neuro motor abnormalities-also common in ADHD kids.
Speech: we had a fabulous speech SLP at Kennedy Krieger test Cian (second ds): He was 2.5 at the time. She popped him in a chair with a wrap around table, and I was there the entire time. She used a lot of picture stimulous to get Cian to name, place and identify various things. She also watched his reactions and behaviours as he did this. I have to say I was thrilled with the speech evaluation. She red flagged behaviorus we wouldn't take seriously until almost 2 years later, (ie: lining up toys)
Now my experience was mine alone. A different doctor will bring different experiences. My only advice is, regardless of what they say, do not bow to their final word, unless of course it is what your Mommy gut tells you. I thought the NP and the Dev ped walked on water, believed them and then Liam received the hf Autism dx at the ripe old age of 6, 2 years after seeing those so called professionals. And you know what, I am totally at peace now, and I never was after the NP and dev ped's dx. In the end Liam was HF autie/adhd/mood disorder -nos. Various doctors got bits of hmi right, but I was not a peace until we had him totally seen, kwim. TRUST YOUR MOMMY GUT!!!!
Oh, and GL,
Dee
Well on the natural products you can use baking soda or just water.
I once went to a training with a dentist and more important than the paste is the actual scrubbing. They said just plain water is find for little ones. Probably better than flouride paste since the wee ones tend to swallow too much anyway.
If you are worried about him not getting enough flouride check and see if your local water is flouridated. If not you can get bottled water which is or vitamins with flouride and that will be more than enough.
As for teh appoinmnets, dear lord i don't have the strength tonight to go into that but dee's a wonder.
