how kids can get you in trouble

Last Tuesday, I was cooking dinner and setting the table when I got a call from my friend Cheryl, asking if I could have lunch with her on Valentines day -her treat. She and her DH are not getting along, and she wanted to spend some time with somebody she actually likes. "OK" I said, jokingly. "I'll be your Valentine's date. You are way better than my neurologist, anyway, who is my only other appointment that day"

we had a nice lunch on v-day and on the way home, I stopped into the grocery store to pick some stuff up. They had valentines day bouquets on clearance already, so I snagged one for myself. What can I say? I am a sucker for flowers and a bargain.

So Thursday night, we are eating Dinner, and peter starts telling these knock-knock jokes, which pretty much all go like this:
"knock-knock"
"who's there"
"R"
"R who?"
"R you crazy for dating him?"

So after about the third one of these, all very similar; I got the message:
"Peter, do you think I am dating a man who isn't Daddy?"
"yes"
"Why do you think that?" -Turns out he had overheard my joke on Tuesday.
so I explained that I had had lunch with Cheryl (He knows Cheryl well. Her sons are friends with my kids). His eyes went huge: "You mean Cheryl's a MAN???"

ROFL! So I to explain more stuff for about another 20 minutes before he had worked it out and was OK.

I am really glad he brought it up with me (in is own special way) FIRST, before he mentioned it to DH! Could you imagine?

Paula,

I'll do ya one better. This morning Jake had his session with his therapist through wraparound. This lady is a very sweet older lady who is probably in her mid sixties. Jake says out of the blue

OMG that is priceless! As Cait recent new doctors would say "he's really concrete isn't he" ROFLMAO!

That is so a comment that would be at our dinner table. Love his creative way of bringing it up too. What a trip!

OMG that is hilarious. At least he was kinda tactful.

I remember the time when a huge black guy about 6'6, well over 300# walk into our corner pizza store, filling it. Peter, then about five, turned around, almost collided with the guys knee, then looked up over the mountainous midriff, leaning back to see his pudgy face.

then Peter spoke. (I saw it coming)

"Hey Look! A big fat guy!"

I was so glad that he actually noticed (and I am not exaggerating), that I didn't scold him.

Everyone held their breaths, except for the two pizza guys, who protected by the counter thought it was OK to fall around the place laughing.

But the big guy contented himself with that stare that only enormous people can manage, which looks both haughty and mean at the same time.

Peter got free garlic knots for months after that.
